Wasted opportunities in the Pokémon anime.

Misty and Dawn meeting. Dawn would likely enjoy Misty’s fiery personality. I can also see Dawn taking an interest in Misty and Ash’s bickering and teasing. Yes, Misty would LOVE Piplup and yes, there would definitely be conversation over the lure. Ash would get hardcore roasted and I’m certain the audience would love it. The deal with Togetic would also be great as a reference. Maybe Misty could come up with new ideas to keep Brock in line due to Crogunk too. And have Dawn teach Misty about contests. No doubt that it would be such an amazing episode.

Journeys having 90% percent of the episodes take place in Kanto despite having an “All around the world” theme going on

Dawn being the only reoccurring previous companion in Journeys only for her to have no real progress shown (what was stopping Quilava or Buneary from evolving?)

Also People have said it but the anime skipping over Arven is a pretty big one. Even if his storyline is too dark or whatever they could’ve just toned it down like they did with Lillie’s

Also skipping Kieran… like why? His storyline isn’t that bad

Not having Lillie during her return revealed me that she has evolved her Alolan Vulpix in to a Alolan Ninetales despite having an Ice Stone.

If they didn’t have any attention of evolving Snowy I don’t see why they had Lillie wind up getting another Ice Stone after the first one got used for Totem Alolan Sandshrew/Sandslash.

If they didn’t want to use the 2nd Ice Stone on Snowy they could have at least had Lillie be revealed to have Alolan Sandslash or Galarian Darmanitan that she had used her Ice Stone on.

Also in all honesty how they handle Chloe and her Eevee’s story felt like a waste of time, when they could have handle both a lot better.

Also I think another missed opportunity is that most of Ash’s Alolan companions didn’t have any sort of team change.

Most likely because this anime's plot is the only dark thing they want to have so they don't want to "waste" time showing an unrelated dark plot. The Explorers are all the bad guys the story wants to have.

There's like absolutely nothing serious about all the friends the RVTs have made.

I wouldn't call 4 "many." Especially not when she lost over half the contests she took part.
Not really interested in your particular nitpicking of how I decided to word what I said and I'm also not sure what the victories or defeats have to do with anything if you are specifically talking about the quantity of contests she was in. However, Dawn participated in a total of 9 official contests before the grand festival. Ambipom participated in four out of nine under Dawn's ownership, which is almost half, that is a significant amount nonetheless. It goes up to six if you want to count Jubilife (under Ash's ownership) and the village unofficial contest in which Aipom was lent to Jessie (episode "Borrowing on Bad Faith!"). So nonetheless, that's a significant amount of time in the limelight and I'm not even counting her evolution episode, practice moments and other stuff.

Speaking of other wasted opportunities

Why didn’t May catch that Swablu she bonded with?

Same with Dawn and Grimer (this one is probably because Grimer isn’t “cute”)

And Lana and Dewpider

If I remember correctly the grimer was a rental Pokemon from the summer camp. So I suppose with that it makes some sense she couldn't catch it. Plus they didn't even let dawn keep ambipom in order to free up space for Togekiss when she easily could have rotated or left her with her mum. So catching something else (especially another non gen 4 Pokemon) didn't happen.

True, but it would've been nice if professor Rowan had told them to keep the Pokemon they bonded with, if they wanted to.

This one always boggles my mind. They let May have 7 pokemon in total and she left her Skitty and Beautifly behind for her Kanto journey, so it's not like they couldn't have done the same for Dawn.

That was a great episode, minus the ending. Swablu/Altaria would've ate in contests.

I really loved their bonding, Raichu and Ash were really nice too. Especially because his personality was different than Pikachu, but that capture would've been even more unlikely bc of Pikachu.

Yeah plus Ash had more than a team of 6 with both Gible and Gliscor by the end of the series. So they instead just had Gliscor do training for a bit . Dawn could easily have done the same and Ambipom return at the grand festival with new moves.

Is it possible that someone in the writing cast really just hated Ambipom's guts?

Or was it considered ugly, so it didn't match Dawn's aesthetic or something? lol
