Yes folks it appears this coming fall the WB is to close along with UPN

What this means for Pokémon in the states im unsure of as i dont live there but seem to think that this will affect it somehow.

Anyways heres whats quoted from Digital spy

The WB and UPN television networks in America are to be closed by their respective parent companies, it was announced today.

Warner Bros. and CBS Corp have announced they plan to join forces and create a new fifth terrestrial network named CW, to launch in the autumn.

Well, if it's true (I take every single news article posted around here with a grain of salt...well, more like a truckload of salt after that whole "4Kids is going to stop dubbing the show" thing that turned out to be totally false), I'm guessing that all the children's programming will move to the new merged network.

Are you serious?! This just basically screws up everything! I'm concerned more with the fates of shows like Everybody Hates Chris, Half & Half, and WWE Smackdown! than Pokémon, though.

My guess is lack of funding and/or ratings.

Somehow, when they cancelled Enterprise, I knew UPN would die. As for the WB. They've already cancelled it here in Mount Pleasant because they barrowed an NBC station.

Digital spy is a very reliable source.

'The new channel will aim for the 18-34 demographic, be called "The CW," and launch in the autumn after The WB and UPN cease operations in September 2006.'

So it'll end around the start of the battle frontier series? What does 18-34 demographic mean? Is it an age group?

They're not closing. UPN and WB are merging. Story's legit. It's on Yahoo News right now. Who knows what's gonna happen to the programming. Pokemon though will more than likely stay as it's a proven cash cow.

Thought so. You think people would learn not to jump to conclusions about news articles like this, but no.

Of course, now that you've straightened it out, there's probably still gonna be fifty more posts of "OMG teh WB iz closing!!!1!1!!" and rumors will run rampant across the board regarding the imminent cancellation of "Pokémon". People will cry, and probably start flame wars on unrelated topics. Dogasu and Edward Elric will have their hands full trying to set everything straight, but nobody will listen. And I predict that I'll most likely have to take another one-week vacation from the boards in order to escape the mind-numbing idiocy.

Just an estimated guess.

they better keep my smallville on their new station or else. Pokemon I dont care they can give it to Toonami.

that article was just misintrepreted. This seems alot more official. Anyway when you think about UPN and WB together would be alot better in some aspects since there are some plain crappy shows on both and there are some good ones they also usually pick up all the shows that are over like friends, the older malcolm in the middle episodes, 8 simple rules for dating my teenage daughter, etc. so its better in the long run.

pipikachu pretty much stated they were merging. They said they were closing their studios and then UPN and WB were combining. That sounds like merging to me.

Wait...if you're listing good shows that would likely get picked up by the new network, why would you include "Friends" in there? Since when was that show ever good?

But I digress.

Pokemon will still air on this new channel...

The CW will operate on The WB's current scheduling model. On weekdays, the network will broadcast programming from 3pm-5pm as well as 8pm-10pm. On Saturdays, a 5 hour kids programming block will air from 7am-12 noon. On Sunday, programming will air from 5pm-10pm.

I'm worried weither I'll be able to get this new channel, because I'm not positive weither I get UPN... I'll have to check...

Don't worry, Pokemon is still going to be there, and hopefully Pokemon Advanced Frontier (if that's going to be the name for season 9). Also, I happen to have BOTH UPN and WB, so that would be great!

I meant those are shows they pick up since they got cancelled but, I think shows such as top model, Smallville, Everwood, 7th heaven, Veronica Mars, etc., are shows likely to still air.

And for people in Memphis (WLMT), Columbus (WWHO), and Providence (WLWC)-along with any other markets with a UPN affiliate but no Kids WB, this will finally be their chance to see Pokemon.

Meh, I guess this thread is pretty pointless now.

I think this is interesting news nonetheless.

Alright, I suppose this thread was made first, thing is this news really does belong in the Entertainment section as it really isn't Pokemon Anime News.

But not trying to start an argument here.

What fun, now I'll have to worry if Smallville, Everwood, Supernatural and Pokemon will come back, great. -_-

Well, let me sound crazy, like Meowth and a fantasy of his, about this.

Imagine da Boss finding that the Kids WB station that airs Pokémon has a shoddy picture quality! Frazzled by this, he'll say "Hmmm, this station is terrible in picture quality." But once The CW is formed, It'll be the beginning of Kids CW (or CW Kids), and a choice of selecting the right channel for this situation, and when he finds the OTHER channel has a better quality, he'll say... "For informing me of this merger, Meowth and friends will have a decent bonus in their next pay!"

Well, it's not much, but at least it's being creative! Unless one of those channels gets eliminated, and the extra channel will end up replaced by Boomerang or a Toonami Network in the US.
