CHAPTER 1
NEWSFLASH
Several berries have been discovered to have evolutionary properties! The evolution of a Vulpkin into a Vulpix with a figy was recorded last night in Litwave City in the Redos region. Other Pokemon may evolve when exposed to Berries. We always wondered how an Oinqui evolves...
That was the news. Winston L. Newell and his twin brother Dawson were watching TV together. Three Zigzagoons were bunched together on the custom, Clamperl-shaped bed. The sun was shining, and the hills of Route 115 could be seen for miles.
Both 22, Winston and Dawson were very rich. Their parents died when they were 17. Knowing they could fare by themselves, the dying father left them alone with 233 million P. They were Trainers, but they rarely caught Pokemon.
Winston battled more often than Dawson, but Winston's Pokemon hadn't evolved yet.
It just happened that Winston was to take a plane to Redsalt to see his sister, Cindy. Cindy had beaten the last Gym leader, Randolph of Pearlmount City, and was now a member of the Pokemon League and was celebration with family. Dawson had the 'flu, so he couldn't go.
Winston brought along Great Balls and a bunch of Berries, including a figy.
When he arrived, he noticed that the area around the airport was full of tall grass. Cindy wasn't expecting him until tomorrow morning. He thought that he could finally prove his wealth and capture a Pokemon...
He never had the chance to capture any other Pokemon, and was sometimes mocked for it. He didn't want to capture any Hoenn Pokemon because he was rather conscious about his image. (Pokemon from Johto and Redos were all the rage.) He was walthy, but people did not think it, thanks to his very common Pokemon.
The echoing call of a Korchu sounded. Korchu were very rare, even in Redos. Checking his watch, he took out his PokeNav (and his Great Balls) and stepped into the grass. He got into the grass and walked about a mile without seeing anything so much as a Grinswoop flying high above him. The cry sounded again, and a rustle went through the grass. A Korchu, he thought as he walked in the direction of the rustle.
Winston's heart was pounding. He saw rounded footprints, very much like that of a Korchu, leading towards a distant forest. He had doubts now. The forest crouched on the hill like some huge, green Pokemon. It could only be the infamous Moonlight Wood. Wild Wobbuffets lived in there, along with Kirlias three feet tall. The last time Winston went to Redos, he was 16. (He became a Trainer just after his father's death.) He wasn't a Trainer and was frightened stiff of the woods. Now, he was braver, and he had Adam, his trusty Zigzagoon, with him.
Suddenly, a full-grown Korchu ran out into the road just out of PokeBall range. It was magnificent. The feather on the Pokemon's head blew in the wind, and its silver fur shone in the afternoon sun. It ran, full speed, into the woods, which were only 300 feet away.
Winston ran towards the wood. Although it was 300 feet away, it seemed like only a few yards. He looked back. Redsalt was at least two miles away. Taking a deep breath, he stepped into the woods.
