Weiner resigns due to misconduct

The Oncoming Storm

I went to jared
It's been in the news for the past month. New York state rep Weiner accidentally posted a lewd picture of himself on his twitter.

At first he said that he was hacked. Then he stated that he has been talking to and sending pictures to six different women through various social networks for the past three years. Although he admited to taking and sending the pictures, he did not meet any of the women in person. Also he stated that he did not use federal resources to perform these acts. He informed the public that he used his own phone to take the pictures and his own laptop to chat online. Despite all these events he stood firm on his decision to not resign from office.

A week after his speech informing the public he did not use federal resources pictures emerged showing Weiner in illicit poses, taken in the highly secretive and exclusive senate gym. Less then a week after these new pictures and Weiner has resigned from office.

My main question is should he have been forced into resignation? Also should the other officials who have arguably done worse things have been able to stay in office?

I personally think he shouldn't have been forced into resignation. Plenty of other officials have had actual affairs and still held office. Even after they admited to having said affairs on federal property.

You don't have to post the rules, bud.

As strange as Weiner's conduct has been, this member shouldn't have been ejaculated from his standing in Congress. I mean, his activities don't interfere with his job.

But then, politics is always a highly fickle and cruel sport.

God damn it, the fact that this guy's name is Weiner brings out the 10 year old in me.

Personally he deserves a medal for performing his duties above and beyond the call of duty! There isn't a politician I know of that doesn't lie, cheat, steal or fornicate since taking office.

Now Weiner can go online and post his junk without reprimand or anyone giving a shite! Just like the rest of us. So long as he does it on the right hook up sights!

There isn't a human being alive that doesn't lie, cheat, steal or fornicate

EFA.

In all honesty, the guy had to go. Yes ok we can argue that his private life doesn't affect his ability to govern, but being a sleaze and lying about it isn't going to help him and his party any time soon. Being a cheat is one thing (and even that is hardly defensible) but being a slimy perv is another thing entirely.

That's qualities all politicians have. Look it up Slimy is on the top of the required traits of a politician. Heck it's right above lying!

After two weeks of hearing this I'm glad it's over.

I mean really, who genuinely cares what someone does in private?

The Daily Show was surrounding this entire scandal. They wasted lots of time with this. I'm glad it's over.

It's the daily show. It's not a breaking news outlet.

I loved all the penis jokes surrounding this scandal. They gave me many lulz.

I agree the jokes were getting to be a tad dull. But, as with every intercourse, things must hit a fever pitch before they go flaccid.

There should be a study about the correlation between high-level careers in politics and business and sexual...insanity? Why are there so many politicians who have had infidelities? Does career stress drive them into being perverted?

On another note, the media had way too much fun with this. "Teen asked about Weiner" | Subtitle: Boehner jokes.

I believe Tony Blair said somewhere that in politics, the level of self-control, self-regulation and pressure to not say, do, think anything wrong and to constantly have a visage of control and formality means that some politicians use sex as a pressure release from a job that requires an appearance of absolute control. I mean, you don't have to approve of strange behavior to actually understand what he means.

As... interesting as Weiner's conduct has been, expecting a resignation seems a bit over-dramatic.

@Scytheswipe: I have no idea what you are implying :D

its a sad day in america when porn stars have more moral courage than congressmen.

I think what gets overlooked in the situation with people asking hi to resign is the fact that the dems needed him to. if he stayed and had to run for re-election whoever the republican has instant dirt on him. and the dems cant afford to lose any more house seats. something that people arent thinking when pelosi tells him he should leave

I'd be one of the ones to argue that not all aspects of a politician's private life need to be judged by the public and used as causes in the voting booth, but I agree that Anthony Weiner needed to resign. I say that because of the blatant lying.

"My account got hacked." Not only was that as perfectly inarguable an untruth as any logician could find, but it was a juvenile and hopeless one to boot. Someone who would just outright tell his constituents a complete falsity like that doesn't merit the political position.

I don't think there is any real correlation other than possibly conflated egos. Stats for extramarital affairs are fairly high in the U.S. and given the amount of elected officials we have, I'm not surprised that there are politicians succumbing to infidelities.

On topic: I'm glad he stepped down. Although I'd agree with Profesco on the statement, "I'd be one of the ones to argue that not all aspects of a politician's private life need to be judged by the public and used as causes in the voting booth," when Anthony seems to be spending so much time showing off his dick, we should question just how much time and effort he is actually giving to his job and if he could give more time and energy to his job... rather than cheat on his wife. Plus the whole lying thing doesn't bode well.

Fun stuff
It's kind of ironic. If it was a republican it would have been a gay sex scandal.
And those guys go against gays... Makes me wonder how far people go to hide things.
