• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

Weird Pokédex entries

Every Pokémon has an entry in the Pokédex telling us what they're like and how they behave. Some are a little... weirder than others.

Dodrio's entry from Sapphire:

Apparently, the heads aren’t the only parts of the body that DODRIO has three of. It has three sets of hearts and lungs as well, so it is capable of running long distances without rest.

Raichu's entry from FireRed:

Its electric charges can reach even 100,000 volts. Careless contact can cause even an Indian elephant to faint.

Darumaka's entry from White:

Darumaka’s droppings are hot, so people used to put them in their clothes to keep themselves warm.

All of Mimikyu's Dex entries, especially these ones from Sun and Ultra Moon:

Its actual appearance is unknown. A scholar who saw what was under its rag was overwhelmed by terror and died from the shock.

A gust of wind revealed what hides under this Pokémon’s rag to a passing Trainer, who went home and died painfully that very night.

(Raichu's FR Dex entry is notably one of the few to mention a real-world animal.)

The one that said Kadabra was really weird.

Wasn't there an entry that said Kadabra used to be a human boy?

EDIT: Found it, it's from FireRed:

It happened one morning - a boy with extrasensory powers awoke in bed transformed into KADABRA.

I know humans turning into Pokémon is what happens in the PMD verse, but in the normal Poké-verse... this just seems weird. o_O

I think one of Poliwrath's Dex entries mentions it swimming across the Pacific Ocean or something along those lines which I find weird because the Pokemon World is supposed to differ from the real world.

A lot of dex entries mention real world things, although it's been significantly diminished in recent generations. For example, Delibird's entry in Ruby/Sapphire describes how it helped an explorer up Mount Everest.

I also remember one of Arcanine's Dex entries mentioning that it is considered a legendary Pokémon in China. Some of Ponyta's Dex entries say it can jump over Ayers Rock (Uluru) in Australia in one leap. (In the Japanese versions, it's the Tokyo Tower.)

Galar Zen Mode Darmantian is so mad it starts melting from the heat of its own rage-induced fire. It being the polar opposite personality-wise to regular Zen Mode Darmanitan is one thing, this reminds me of the other crazy Pokedex entry that Primeape can get so angry it dies

I think Gastly’s also mentioned an Indian elephant. There is a theory floating around that Raichu and Gastly’s Pokédex entries originally mentioned a cut elephant Pokémon. It makes perfect sense and I totally buy it.

There's two cute elephant Pokémon, Phanpy and Cufant. It would make more sense if it was one of those two.

A lot of the Gen 7 Dex entries have a weirdly morbid obsession with death and dying. I already mentioned Mimikyu's Dex entries and the horrible fates of the people who saw its true form, but there's also Bonsly's entry from Ultra Moon:

If its body gets too damp, it will die. So, in a process reminiscent of sweating, its eyes expel moisture.

Sensu Style Oricorio's entry from Ultra Sun:

It charms its opponents with its refined dancing. When they let their guard down, it places a curse on them that will bring on their demise.

Komala's entry from Sun:

It is born asleep, and it dies asleep. All its movements are apparently no more than the results of it tossing and turning in its dreams.

Bewear's entry from Moon:

This Pokémon has the habit of hugging its companions. Many Trainers have left this world after their spines were squashed by its hug.

Not really to do with death, but Crabrawler's entry from Moon is one of the very few that mentions Pokémon (or at least parts of them) being eaten as food:

It punches so much, its pincers often come off from overuse, but they grow back quickly. What little meat they contain is rich and delicious.

Neither of those existed ar the time. Remember the Pokédex entries from FireRed are translations of the original Japanese Red/Green.

Phanpy did exist when FR/LG came out, it just wasn't available (along with all the other Johto Pokémon) until the post-game.

An Indian elephant? Funny enough, the Cufant line could fit that
