weird things about teams

What things to you find weird about people's teams in the anime? Here are some things I found odd.

First of all, May's team. When fire red and leaf green came around, she got some Johto starters to advertise it. She got a bulbasaur... and a squirtle... Why did she get squirtle? The official representations of those two games were venusaur and charizard, who in their weaker forms were bulbasaur and charmander. Why squirtle? I mean if it had anything to do with May's cute themed team, then it should have been bulbasaur who was dropped for squirtle, as charmander and squirtle are the cute starters (notice that in the official pokemon handbook, bulbasaur is the only starter not called cute). I don't really get why.

Secondly, Team rocket's pokemon (the main rockets). When the anime started, the two people representing the rockets had poison types. James had a koffing and Jessie had... ... an ekans... Why did she get ekans instead of grimer? I can understand why they did this though. Seeing as she got seviper (I still say that's a big mistake), I guess the writers liked giving Jessie snake pokemon. Although she may have gotten seviper because it was remnicent of arbok, I think she may be getting snakes because of the whole "snakes are nasty, evil creatures" thing. I still think it's odd that they still gave James koffing, like a real rocket grunt, but didn't give Jessie grimer, but anyway.

Discuss, and please no smashing me.

She didn't get Charmander because her starter Pokemon was a fire type, Combusken. Why would May need a baby Charmander when her Combusken is her strongest Pokemon?

Not to mention May never had a Water type, so that's probably why they chose to give her Squirtle. It's really not that complicated.

When I first got into the anime, I had a theory as to why Musashi and Kojirou had an Arbo and a Dogasu, respectively. Numerically, the Arbo line is the first group of pure Poison Pokémon in the original list of 150, and the Dogasu line is the last group. My guess is that the writers knew that they wanted to give Musashi and Kojirou each a signature Poison Pokémon (since they're the villains, and Poison was the closest thing to a Dark type in the Kanto era) and rather than picking them arbitrarily, they just went with the first and the last in the numerical list.

Again, it's just a theory, but it's possible.

Jesse and James' Pokemon represented their personalities. Jesse's personality was a snake, dangerous and fierce-tempered. James' personality was a ditzy airhead who wasn't at all serious.

^ They are kanto starters, but fire red and leaf green were symbolized by venusaur and charizard. And what do you mean by bulbasaur getting dropped for squirtle?

Koffing isn't ditzy. You could have just have easily justified Jessie getting koffing, because its explosiveness matches Jessie's explosive temper.

And how dare you insult dogasu. Wait... Are you the dogasu? I read your site. I love it!

True, but thats not they way the writers did it. I am sure you can relate every pokemon in some way to every main character.
But their pokemon did suit their personalities, koffing did really match james and ekans was the same for jessie, besides jessie's hair is serpant-like ^^. Ekans/arbok were intimidating to look at to match Jessie's nasty and sometimes scary personality, but weezing always floated in the air/water and bounced off of things, it was a total airhead, just like james. Goofball airhead, and koffing was a goof"ball" and filled with gases...seems pretty logical to me.

What do I mean? Look at your first post. If I may quote:

octoboy said:

And I said that Bulbasaur was dropped for Squirtle. And if they were Kanto starters, why did you say Johto? At least correct it.

Anyway, on the subject of Team Rocket, I noticed they have alot of creepy, but at the same time whimsical looking Pokemon. And they also seem to be moving to more cutie pies as well (Manene, Chimecho).

Also, they tend to favor Poison, Grass, and Psychic types, and one Normal as well (Lickitung!)

Casey got an Elekid.

I know, but if Ash had electabuzz, then elekid would be too similar.

What I found kind of odd about Brock's team is that two thirds pokemon in his Hoenn team were water types. Why didn't he keep his rocky theme. Misty stuck to water, so why didn't Brock do the same?
