Osu! Tatake! Ouendan!
A Japan-only music game for the DS, you coordinate a group of trenchcoat-clad male cheerleaders (except on Insane mode, which features classic female cheerleaders, and cute ones to boot) who help people with their problems, like a schoolboy trying to make the grade, a racehorse going after a theif who stole the prize money, or a man who simply puts on a bandana to grow to the size of skyscraper and fights off a giant blue mouse.
You play the game by hitting numbered circles (called Hit Markers) with your stylus at the right time to gain points (50, 100, or 300). Sometimes you guide a ball along a track (the path gets crazier as you go along), and other times you encounter a spinner, where you have to spin it enough to charge up the meter before another blue circle closes in on the center.
The game has a steep difficulty curve (though you'll get it. I've owned the game for only a week and I'm almost done with Normal mode). The later difficulties aren't very forgiving of misses and 50 point hits. If you miss or get 50s too many times, then it's game over.
The songs playback well from the DS, almost CD quality, but the sound effects are overused, and there's too few of them. The game is also text-light. You'll only need to take a few minutes to read a translation guide to get it all. The manga-style storytelling is easy enough to figure out. I recommend it, unless you have anger problems, then I highly recommend you stay away, because you're going to get frustrated a lot.
