Slowking in the second movie could be easily explained that it gained enough intelligence to speak like a human thanks to the Shellder on its head, Meowth had to teach himself to talk, Chatot is a parrot so it can mimic human speech naturally, and Manaphy was most likely imitating May since it imprinted her as its mother and was learning things from her. But this Gastly was just random in every way and also had really strange powers of illusion that no other Pokémon has ever done again.

I chalk that one to just first installment weirdness with the first season as it did alot of weird things in the show.

Hypno’s Naptime was a strange episode with so many concerning unseen implications including deaths and hospitalizations from affected children doing extremely dangerous things all while under the effects of hypnosis. Also it was really odd that the club never noticed it was strange for a club that was supposed to cure their insomnia that they never actually fell asleep once.

Oh yes! Most definitely! Those kids were under some serious hypnosis! That episode reminds me of another strange hypnosis episode - Pikachu Revolts!

The Unown in the 3rd movie had similar powers; this episode & that movie were written by the same person.
