My friend was trying to get Entei in HGSS a while ago, while I was hunting Raikou at the same time. Anyway, Raikou appeared around the National park or one of the routes next to it, and we started wondering-

If Raikou or Entei appeared in the National Park and you happened to be in the Bug Catching Contest, then what? If you were just hoping for a Scyther or some Hoenn/Sinnoh Pokemon, and happened to encounter and catch Raikou/Entei, would that count. I'd assume it would almost gurantee a win(Depending on the HP), but what do you think?

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to find anything other than the bugs during the Bug Catching Contest.

If it was possible, then yeah, you'd probably get a win.

Well, I would imagine that it's impossible for it show up in the Bug Catching Contest.

I think it would be impossible to encounter it during the Bug Catching Contest

However, if it was possible, then it would either get you a win, or you would be disqualified, as neither of them are Bug types.

I agree. The bug catching contest is probably programed into the game to be bugs only at that time; meaning that the dogs would have to wait until it's over to appear in the park.

i don't think the dogs can show up in "man-made" grass patches. for example, national park, safari zone, etc.

The question is answered so the topic now belongs to my Sneasel army as a scratching post. Also, OP, next time use the Pokemon questions sticky. It's not there to gather dust. 8|
