Since the beginning of recorded history, there have always been dark periods, when the very future of mankind was tested. Bitter wars have wrought destruction upon the land. Struggles for survival fought with an incredibly high cost. A wide assortment of creatures have been in opposition with humans for as long as both sides can remember. But none of these are worse in the minds of humans than the wolf.
History tells us that wolves are killers by nature, and a horrible species worthy of complete and total destruction. The wolves are vicious, cunning, but above all, vengeful. It is said that wolves carry out a long held grudge against humans, and that they will stop at nothing to destroy. Humans, out of fear and loathing, slaughtered wolves, putting them at death's door. Nearly all wolves were killed, those who remained alive retreated for a time. Waiting in hatred, for there chance at revenge.
Mankind had a stint of peace, and forgot all about their troubles with the wolf. Memories faded, until hardly anyone knew what a wolf was. Time always tells, no matter how fearful or impact a memory is, it will always fade from view as conditions improve. But this peace was not to last long.
Wolves slowly crept back into view. Tales spoke of a great wolf that attacked in moonlight, with vicious fangs and powerful claws. But this wolf was even more horrid than its ancestors. It could walk on two feet, and was much larger in size. Another tale spoke of a manwolf, a creature that looked as a man in the daylight, and transformed into a wolf in the night. These campfire stories rattled the hearts of children, but no one took them seriously.
Until the wolves struck. One night, a village awoke, to find a house destroyed. The resident, had been mauled, and torn apart, and his remains, of which there were very few, where sprawled in a bloody mess across the floor of his house. In the blood, footprints were left, a large foot, resembling that of a wolf.
Taken by total surprise, panic spread like wildfire. The townspeople locked their doors, and towns were shut down. Their pensive hands stood at the ready, waiting for the wolves to come out. But they never did. So, the people went to sleep, suspecting nothing. The next morning, another person was killed, in similar fashion to the first. The town went crazy. This lead them to conclude that wolves were a nocturnal killer, so the town went on heavy watch during the night. Time passed, and the watches didn't help. Every morning, the people awoke to find one more disaster. One more death.
Fear grew, and suddenly campfire stories seemed like a haunting prophecy. Man began to suspect the existence of this “manwolf”. And out of fear, a great hunt was started. The worried townspeople began suspecting each other of being wolves. Suspicions grew, and the people, acting frantically, began persecuting this supposed manwolves, and eventually, hanging them publicly. Soon thereafter, this become commoplace. If a murder took place, then the next morning, someone would be rounded up and hung in town square, for all to see.
And so the wolves began wining. Humans could do nothing but blindly kill, and the night attacks only continued. Humans could do nothing but continue this random killing, in hopes that it would be enough to vanquish the manwolves.
Our tale takes place in a lonely village nestled in the northwoods. They have virtually been cut off from the rest of the world, no one dares travel anymore, in this the age of wolves. The town is in the dead of winter, as fallen snow still litters much of the ground. The trees are all barren of leaves, dejected reminders of the state of the village itself. The houses are dreary and unkept, several dilapidated. The town hall seems to be the only building still well kept, a large building with a belltower, and a once lively courtyard sitting in its front, a frozen over fountain.
The people here are on the end of there rope, fighting for survival against a shadow of an enemy. They trust no one, for on any and all sides, a person they may open themselves to may be a manwolf in disguise. The people here are dejected and irrational at times, but they have no other option.
It is indeed a grim time.
A brief run down of how play in this RPG will work:
Hello! In Werewolf, there are a few basic rules to play, that make everyone's life a bit easier. There not too complicated, so I'll be as clear as I can.
When you join this RPG, you will be given one of two general roles, via Private Message. This is either Human or Werewolf. Humans are the normal, everyday people of the village. They decide who to hang during the day. Werewolves, are wolves who disguise themselves as humans during the day, but attack at night. During the day, they can take part in deciding who to hang, because they do look like people, and at night, the werewolf pack decides on who to maul for the night. That's the basic premise.
Your role is a secret. Do not tell any one. This is why they are assigned through Private Message. You can tell anyone you want, however, your also free to lie, so this really doesn't accomplish anything. You can make alliances with other players and such, or double-cross them, etc, but I'd like to ask this be done mostly outside of the main topic, unless you wish to make in-character alliances.
Now then, I'll try to be more specific about some of what I said earlier. This RPG takes place in two main phases of play. Day and Night.
Events during the day:
-The wolves latest victim is discovered.
-Arguing amongst the villagers takes place, to decie who to hang.
-The actual voting on who to hang takes place.
-The person with the most votes, is hanged, wether they are a human or a wolf.
And that's the basic day. Now, you can throw in some side conversations wherever you like, but this is the general flow of things. Note that when a person is hanged, they are out of the RPG, and their character is dead. When it comes time to vote, I'll ask everyone to Private Message me a vote for the character they would like to vote off. The person with the most votes wins, er, loses, and they die.
Next is the Night! Events during the night are:
-Villagers go to sleep.
-The wolf pack decides on who to attack.
And that's about it. Like with the hanging, wolves send their votes to me via Private Messaging.
Now then, this might sound a little unfair. Why do the wolves get to vote in eliminating twice? Simply put, its because there are fewer wolves than humans. The objective for humans is to kill all the wolves. The objective for the wolves is to kill enough humans that the number of wolves and humans alive are the same. They can then attack the humans in broad daylight without fear of any retaliation.
Sign-Up Form:
Name: Your character's name. Remember you are playing as a normal villager, or a wolf in disguise as one.
Age: Your age. I'm open to relatively anything feesable here, but young children probably wouldn't fit into this RPG too well. Though, they have grown up in a very touchy "must kill wolves" background. That can do some pretty strange things to a child.
Gender: Your gender. Not too many options here.
Description: A physical description of your charcter. Be descriptive
Personality: A description of your character's personality, mental health, etc.
History: How they grew up, their past, etc. Run-ins with a wolf are not a good idea, as most likely any run in with a wolf would have killed your character right then and there.
Other: Anything else you'd find helpful to have in here.
Special Roles:
If enough people join, then some will be given special roles. These are roles which allow a character to do specialized things. For example, a human could recieve the special role Seer upon joining, and, during the night, be able to reveal the role of any other character. Or, another special role could be the Silver Bullet, or a person who is able to, when attacked by wolves, take one wolf down with him.
A full list of special roles present will be given after signups are closed, informing players of what special roles are present.
(Apologies on the messy formatting, but I thought it would be easier to understand in pieces. It's all better now.)
