I've never really watched anime, but I decided to finally give it a shot, and started with Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, which was such a fantastic decision. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better anime to start my 'anime debut'. Be it the emotional weight, comedy, incredible cast of characters and world building, and the way the plot kept getting thicker without losing its way, it was all amazingly done.
As a result of that, I really got into anime, and have finished Code Geass, Steins Gate, Death Note and Konosuba. Surprisingly, despite how amazing FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood was, my favorites are actually Code Geass and Steins Gate. Code Geass was incredible due to Lelouch, who is my favorite anime character yet. The story was superb too, and the mecha fights between the two armies were entertaining, yet were not heavily dependent on them either which I liked. But the biggest marks come from the ending. What an amazing ending that was in Code Geass. It was very emotional, yet gave off perfect closure. Steins Gate is also a favorite of mine. I loved how different it was, being a seinen anime and all. The plot was built up slowly but carefully, and I loved the characters and their various interactions, while slowly uncovering the mysteries of the phone microwave. **** hits the fan in the second half, which was incredible to see. The themes of sci-fi and psychological mystery was really engaging and I loved everything about it.
So my top 6 in order at the moment are:
1) Code Geass
2) Steins Gate
3) FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood
4) Death Note
5) Konosuba
6) FullMetal Alchemist 2003
Currently I'm alternating between Gurren Lagann and Cowboy Bebop.
