Upon looking up the Mysterious Girlfriend X Blu-Ray on Amazon, the cover of this particular anime caught my eye this morning and I wanted to check it out. Saw that it has a good ranking on MAL, so I went ahead to watch it.

Damn, it's good. Not the best, but I really do like what I see. The mystery surrounding Yuuko is very captivating, I can hardly wait to see what new discoveries they make. Episode seven indeed got me to gape at the screen. Of course, since I've watched about three-and-a-half hours in a row, I need to take a break, which sucks that I have to... but I'll be able to finish it tonight for sure.

well it wasnt a HUGE refrence hell it could be refrencing another anime but i caught it as toradora. it was when she was yelling at her brother and said "why do you clean your room? what are you a protagonist of a Light Novel?" Toradora is adapted from a Light Novel and Ryuuji really really really loves to clean haha

I didn't catch that either, if it's even a reference to that. There's a lot of Light Novels out there, other protagonists might have that characteristic.

While I have of yet to see K-ON, I felt like that small moment was a reference to something since the ocarina wasn't used as a reference to anything, I don't think.

I really liked Dusk Maiden, it felt a little unique to me whether it was in story, how it was presented, the art or what, exactly. I have a soft spot for ghost stories (though I wasn't creeped out by anything--disturbed at one point, yes, but not creeped out), so that was very enjoyable, and I was legitimately sad by the end (and then the very end made me happy). I'm happy I checked it and the OVA out. Not sure if I would like to get it for my own personal use, though, but I don't regret watching it.

Though I think I'll be forever haunted by Yuuko. You don't forget characters like her that easily.

Wasn't there a scene exactly like that in the Persona 4 anime too? I have no idea which came first (seeing as the only 3 of these I watched really is Watamote), but I dunno.

K-ON! was first. P4A didn't have a scene like that, someone just re-drew the animation.

I really don't know why I didn't start watching Miyazaki's movies earlier. I remember one of the teachers back in primary school putting on Laputa for the class (Which I initially objected to but ended up enjoying) and falling asleep watching Howl's Moving Castle a while back after renting it on DVD (It wasn't boring, I was just really tired) but this is the first time in recent memory I've sat down to watch one of his movies from start to finish.

And I have to say I feel terrible for underestimating the power of Miyazaki. Maybe it's just my general dislike of entry level anime that had me doubting him. As for the movie itself it was fantastic. The amount of charm in the film is something of a rarity nowadays. Well, Hosada's films being the exception of course. As I said before I watched the movie subbed. I'm not Japanese, but it sounded nice to my ears so I guess it must have been pretty damn good. Honestly my desicion was less to do with the quality of the dub and more to do with the fact that I wanted to see at least one of Miyazaki's movies subbed in my life and this one felt right. Sure I'll be watching the new one as soon as it gets subbed since Anno voices the lead, but I didn't want to wait that long. But I switched over to English at random points in the movie and it sounded pretty good even if the approach was radically different so I'll have to watch it with the dub some time.

And before I forget, I can't go without mentioning the animation. Up-scaled into 720p the movie looks absolutely stunning. I'd even go as far as saying it looks better than most of the shows airing this season. Actually, it looks better than some of the movies that have come out recently. For the animation to still look so good almost 25 years later is a real accomplishment.

Overall, I give it a 9/10. Definitely earns a spot as one of my all time favourite movies

I said "and the rest", so of course Porco Rosso counts despite the fact I haven't watched it yet. It was a lame attempt at going for a Gilligan's Island joke, but I realized it wasn't going to work.

Thinking on watching a movie when I get home this afternoon... probably Princess Arete. Anything to get my mind off the fact MAL is still down and I would like to update my list.

Well the Index Movie had alot more singing in it then i thought it would but still i really enjoyed. it.the visuals were amazing aswell. it was worth the wait
