What Are the Core Elements of All Pokémon Designs?

I wanted to ask everyone something for a project I’m working on: what do you think are the common elements of Pokémon’s creature designs?

I know that each generation has their own unique design principles (ex- Kanto is more sharp & realistic, Hoenn is more cool & edgy, etc.), but what design elements do you think are consistent through all 9 generations?

Ummm... water starters are always semi-aquatic?

I wish you the best of luck with this, as it feels like it'll be quite difficult to find significant consistencies across all nine generations. If you focused on each individual unique generation/region, I feel as though you'd find more meaningful results than trying to look at all 1,008 Pokémon designs all together...

But I genuinely hope to be proven wrong!!!
