I finished I'm Starting to Worry about this Black Box of Doom by Jason Pargin last night. Overall was pretty good. Kind of a hard book to describe, but the book is incredibly meta. You can tell this author is actually online and has a generalized understanding of the internet. It actually makes me wonder if this book was devised in concept because of the Reddit Boston Bombing situation.
It was interesting seeing this book talk on topics and share points of view that are discussed by the older guard of the internet; those who grew up with the rise and have a (theoretical) maturity about some of the observations to be made about what has changed over the years.
The ending was a little eh, but it served it's purpose. I think it just tied together a little too well provided the situation. But maybe that was the point, and the focus wasn't on the ending in the typical way one would think.
It's a bit of a long book, being almost 400 pages, and while it doesn't read slow, it wasn't a fast read for me either.
The contents of the Black Box of Doom is incredibly predictable in hindsight and at the same time, not at all. Was funny to learn what it was, and even more hilarious that we've all probably had something incredibly similar.
