What Can I Do If People Seem to Be Ignoring My Story?

Smile Guy

Keep Smiling...
I wouldn't normally go to these lengths but I am always so frustrated when my hard work seems to be completely ignored while other people's work seems to shoot to the top (with good or bad reviews) in no time at all.

The Uprising

I mean take my above story for example. One post? It does frustrate me a bit...
So any advice? Any suggestions? Happened to you? I'm just interested to know... And I know about the stickies and stuff.

Don't worry. Sometimes when a story's good people find it hard to post any useful criticisms. Rather than post a "It's good. I are liking" many people will read without commenting. However, it could also be an indication that it's good, but middling (good, but not good enough to lavish with praise).

But fear not! I will follow your story, my liege!

Keep smiling, that's what you do. :p

Obvious clichés that will pop up:

1) Just keep writing
2) It's your choice if you want to keep writing or not
3) "Hell, I get no reviews AT ALL but I still write. What's your problem?"
4) Someone is bound to pop in sooner or later
5) "Ooh, ooh, I'll check it out! :D"
6) Make a reputation and spread your name around the forum (at least the fanfiction one)

Your choice. :p

Yeah, Breezy just summed up all the replies you'd get for this thread. But seriously, I'd think about checking out other people's fics before whining about your own, because there are tons of people with exactly the same problem - it kind of makes some people disregard your fic even more, just because you're telling us about it.

There are hundreds of fics here, each one a new, unique story, and each one usually begging the full attention and concentration of the reader. The only way everyone would get a fair amount of reviews would be if everyone reviewed every fic on the forum.

Everyone was at the point you're at right now. Fact is, you wont get reviews overnight, so dont bother anticipating them. Take them as they come, register them, and continue, there's no better way. If you go to sleep with a stomach twisting with excitement for your next review, only bitter dissapointment will greet you the next time you visit your fic, and that in turn will compell you to create threads like this. It really is quite useless.

No I know she hates popularity, but Scrap, for a random example, and even Breezy up there are two of SPPFs most popular authors. The list goes on. They'll tell you first hand that they started as a newbie with a story, little reviews, little attention and a passion to write and make improvements to their skills. They stuck at it, then they turned out like they are now.

Now I'm so sure that they didn't post in the AC moaning about their lack of reviews when they first came here.

So what I say is just do it. Stick at it, dont htink about reviews and just do it. Get friends. Review other's work, because you can't whine about receiving no reviews then forget about reviewing other poor souls in similar situations to your own.

Many people have caused people to lose interest in them and their fics completely through whining about it, and I could name a few, but I'd rather not just incase I were assassinated or something. So take everything said on board, and continue writing at your pace.

Believe me, it will take more than one fic to boost your popularity in the fanfic section. So just get on with it, because recieving fast reviews is impossible.

Hey now, that's a bit unfair. I actively post full reviews for people and have written plenty of fics here before. I know for a fact, that for many people this happens. And I just wondered if there could be a system where everyone gets reviews. I'm not whining... I'm just asking. I hate it when I see good fics go to waste. Not just my own.

Sorry, whining is a harsh way to describe it >.>. No offense intended I can assure you, just my adjective =P.

But anyway, I'm sure such a system wont be possible, I mean, you have to get everyone who reviews here to agree, and that includes the off-chance reviewers (by that I mean the people who pop in to give one review to a fic).

But my advice to your problem would be what I said, just stick at it, thats the surest way you'll get plenty of reviewers. And not awake already stated that people could already be reading your fic, just not reviewing simply because they could find nothing to review about, and saying 'I like it' is considered spam.

Again, just to clear things up, I meant no offense or agressive intent with my choice of words ._..

Well, actually, I'm being a bit unclear as well. I didn't mean I was expecting 300 reviews the next morning, it's just I hate it when I come back in a couple of days time or whatever and to my horror find it has sunk to the third page without even any looks. I will just stick at it and try to spread my reputation here at being a nice guy.
Your point about the system is true but I was thinking if people got together in groups of five or something and they just supported each others stories and/or poems then it would mean that everyones got noticed. Sometimes I find it hard (particularly at this time of night ;)) to even right a proper review anyway...

Well that brings me back to my point of making friends. Continuing to be a nice guy and building up that reputation should earn you a few friends that always feel obliged yet not pressured to review your fics. I think it works just as well as getting in groups of people who review eachothers works.

As Breezy said, you'll get loads of cliché answers. Everyone says the same thing every time a topic like this comes up. I'd give up on getting any useful advice from here that you won't have already heard. The reality is trhat fic writing is like tapdancing through treacle. Treacle infested with defeat and the occasional rocket launcher that skyrockets people to fame. You can't just wait for that to happen. It's pretty unlikely. So keep hanging on, and tapdance to the top!

Or just give up. Whatever floats your treacle-boat.

Simple. Conspire to take over the planet, then when you own it all (Bwahaha!) force everyone to review your fic! Just kidding. Mostly. I know how you feel though. My Life of a ****** up Alchemist has over two hundred and bloomin fifty views, and only one review. I would sugest placing the link in your sig, and make asmany, non spammy posts as you can, then someone is bound to review your fic. Then again, according to your sig, noone listens to you. Who am I talking to again? >_> <_> >_< <_< (click the link, it gudes you........)sorry.

Give it some time, at least it isn't completely ingnored. Reviews and popularity doesn't just pop up, time is what it takes. You need time for yourself to become known around the fan fic forum. Also, why not calculate how many views you had every day, without going into the thread yourself?

Maybe you might find out how much the number of views are increasing since the last day.

And then it wouldn't be counted as an "Ignored Story", I wouldn't say that people aren't ignoring your story, maybe they find it hard to get anything wrong in your fic.

Remeber: It takes time. No matter how long you had been waiting...it takes time.
