What do you think Ash's legacy will be like?

Given he has now left, later generations may eventually not remember him too well or feel the nostalgia that many older fans have for him today. He has been quite divisive as a character though how will his legacy be? Will later generations still enjoy watching the seven anime series that feature him or will he just go down as a generic action hero who was the Pokémon Protagonist for 20 years?

Honestly I think his legacy is going to be okay, he's had his up and downs moments and despite what some of the people on here says like his character got worse after diamond and Pearl, you know stuff like that. I think people still have good moments and memories of him and if they're willing to Share those moments with future generations I think he'll be okay.

Look at the Three stooges and the Marx Brothers, their legacy is still being held up to this very day.

It's going to be forever be a meme that Ash took 20+ years of episodes to finally win a league and eventually become the World Champion.

That being said, Ash and Pikachu are such iconic characters.

Many millennials who watched the show as kids will remember the snarky, hilarious Ash from OS. Those who stuck with the show or newer audiences will remember the enthusiastic and tenacious protagonist who progressively improved as a Trainer until he finally won it all.

I think DP and XY will continue to be popular and recommended for audiences who want to watch a Pokémon show based on the game formula (viz. badge quest).

I think his legacy will be forgiven for the most part, even though anipoke really doesn't have any right to be forgiven for how they decided to end Ash's story.

I do think we are past the point where he is a poorly received character. XY has done so much to restore his image to the casual audience

Let's be honest Ash never had a positive image outside of the anipoke fandom and XY did nothing to improve it (nor did any season for that matter). He's always been a poorly written character for them and they're not wrong to think so.

I slightly disagree because XY definitely brought back a lot of fans (especially the older crowd). Ash had a generally positive image in that series.

I am sure he won't be entirely forgotten as there are streaming services now which really facilitate watching any older series. And there are over two decades worth of Ash episodes for people to rewatch the old show if they really want that nostalgia fuel.

Tho most generation alpha kids might have a harder time adapting to a show like that, I am sure other hipster kids out there won't mind the somewhat outdated structure of the older series, especially OS with its unique style and witty dialogue, as it's deemed iconic by the general public despite some questionable battles and repetitive formula.
