What do you think of Goh catching a lot of Pokemon?

THE AURA IS WITH ME
Me personally, I'm kinda torn. I mean I don't think i'll be invested in the new series but i've heard that this character is going to be catching alot of Pokes just to catch them.

If this is the gimmick that the anime is gonna be doing this Gen, then every week, we'll be seeing his character Bio each week wiith a list of Pokemon. Meaning that this guy is single-handedly going to break Ash's bio record of having had the most Pokemon.

Kind of a cheat and not really necessary to me. Goh would break Ash's record in one Season alone! Kind of a cheap shot! But is anyone else okay with this?

It's a gimmick for sure but it's cool to see that they will stick around at the lab so we should see them often (the shot from the next episode with them all together is nice for example). And of course there will be highlights like Scyther who gets used beyond just staying at the lab. Also it's not a competition between Ash and Go, Go wants to catch all pokemon and Ash wants to be the best at battling. This distinction was made clear in the bios. Making a competition in your head will only lead to frustration.

It's like saying Go is better at battling. They both are made to be good at two completely separate things.

I don’t mind that he is doing it and it is something that I wished Ash would have done when he first started his journey. However, just because Go has that goal doesn’t mean that it should prevent Ash from catching some Pokémon as well as you can’t achieve the goal of Pokémon Master and just focus on batting with Pikachu all the time. And since Go will be battling as well in this coming episode, I don’t expect Go to not battle anymore after this episode. I expect we will see Go battle a lot more then most companions have in the past and I expect it just based on two of his Pokémon that he has want to and like to battle and that’s Scorbunny and Scyther. So if Go can participate in battles then Ash can catch some Pokémon as well. I don’t think Go is going to get all the Pokémon like some legendary Pokémon for example, but I still expect him to get quite a lot and eventually get Mew

I like it considering none of his other traveling companions really caught anything.
I would have preferred the interactions between the trainer and their owned Pokemons more though, so it remains to be seen if we can have these or they would fade into obscurity after the episode. Otherwise, I don't mind that Go's being passionate about capturing Pokemons.

That scene though where Gou was playing with all his Pokemon was great!!!

Because the writers can't think of a proper goal for him outside of catching Mew (which will likely never happen), so they just decided to let him catch Pokemon.

Tbh I'd even take another type-specialist goal rather over this.

I don't really have an issue with Gou's recent catching spree, because it was essentially what I expected from the moment that we got information about his goal. Also, I'm glad that he was shown exercising with his Bug-types in the recent preview, which implies that we'll at least see them make cameos every now and then.

Kanto is love. Kanto is life.
I don't like it. He should've stuck if 5-6 Pokemon and that's it.

The writers have gotten away from only knowing how to give focus to companions in regards to goals essentially being a reskinned version of Satoshi’s gym quest over the years. SM gave a cast of characters with goals given focus that aren’t directly tied to battling while making it feel worthwhile an affair to follow due to them doing things involving Pokémon. The writers are using the two protagonist of the anime to embody what the franchise is about in regards to battling and capturing Pokémon. The writers get to advertise GO as a bonus with this method as well. I’m glad we’ve genuinely moved on to more innovative writing in regards to goals/dreams. There’s some sticky issues I may have with the masscatching but for now it’s fine.

It's about time the writers explored catching as a profession rather than just a means to building a team. Other than Brock and Misty (whose goals were okay but underdeveloped), I've been less than enthused about the companions' paths because they had little to do with the games and didn't add much depth, either.

I expect Go to get a team that is ideal for catching, and that his other Pokemon will be seen at the lab every now and then. A rival is also likely, especially since the progress is quantifiable. What I'm less sure about is that Go will actually study the behavior/abilities of his Pokemon and draw connections to Mew, their supposed ancestor.

It's something different and new, so I'll welcome Go catching as many as he wants. He will be the Crystal of the anime. Ash took over 20 years before winning a canon league (saying canon because the first one he won wasn't in the games). So if it takes Go catching all the other pokemon (maybe all the non-legendaries) before getting Mew, maybe, then I don't mind. Plus we've seen people with legendary pokemons before. Brendon had the 3 Regis until he released them, A Nurse Joy had a Latias, and let's not forget Tobias who had Darkrai and Latios. So maybe Go could really get Mew. Max did have Jirachi for 7 days and May got Manaphy, so maybe they'll let Go catch Mew, and then release it a few days later. The writers says he wants to catch Mew, doesn't mean they'll make him keep it forever if he does. ;)

It's pretty much already been establish with Ash still owning a Melmetal that just because a pokemon happens to be a mythical pokemon doesn't mean it has to be release. Also May and Max never officially caught or owned Manaphy and Jirachi, and as for Brendon he never released Regice, Regirock, and Registeel, while it's true that Regigigas temporary took control over those 3 Brendon still owns Regice, Regirock, and Registeel. So no, if Gou catches Mew he doesn't have to release Mew.

There isn't much depth to just tossing Pokeballs and trying to catch everything you lay your eyes on. I mean, okay, Go is filling up the Pokedex, trying to get every Pokemon...so what? What do we gain out of it? What complexity do we get out of it? What is there to explore?

I am OK with it, yes it means that the majority of his Pokemon will receive little to no character development but considering how rarely Ash and the past main characters expressed interest in catching more Pokemon I am OK with it.

Besides they can still get stronger but its going to have to happen offscreen, normally I'd prefer to see onscreen training but I'll make an exception here.

To build up to Mew since it contains the genes of every Pokemon

I would’ve been fine with this if it was the goal of a protagonist of an ongoing side anime but I don’t know how to feel about it being the goal of the costar of the main anime.
