I think the "dirt" that always surrounds Diglett/Dugtrio is actually part of it's body. Hence why you can battle with Diglett/Dugtrio indoors.

Diglett has feet, as it mentioned in Mystery Dungeon.

Play HG/SS with a Diglett out and jump over ledges... it will follow you, and omg dirt follows... maybe.
Use Diglett in the Pokethlon hurdles thingy... more dirt follows... probably.
Have Diglett out and go over Ecruteak's invisible floors.

btw, I doubt the sprite would change, any... just thoughts.

I was thinking the same. I think its kinda a mole thing with the dirt actually being a part of it body. Mostlikely its just small claws and stuff.

I had the idea of the HGSS thing with the diglett, before I had read the post describing it, but, I hadn't thought it as in-depth as Dark gamer did, but, the seismic toss, was just epic.

I think it's a long tube, going all the way through the earth. So two digletts is one. So if you had one in real life, in china, there'd be another one that's completely linked.

The dirt is probably actual dirt they leave after digging around.
