Are you a master after defeating the Elite 4? When you collect all the Pokémon? When you know everything about all the species?

A Pokemon MASTER is catching/recording every single pokemon.

The one who is a true Pokemon master can win at every aspects of Pokemon, yet they still are humble. A true Pokemon master lords over them all, but always helps the one at the bottom. A true Pokemon master knows everything there is to know about Pokemon, yet there is always something that still is unknown. This goes with what Blackjack Gabbiani said.

I thought a Pokémon Master was someone who has a mature look towards Pokémon. Like, from the animé, Bruno, or Gary from the later episodes. Just someone who sees them as people in non-human bodies. It doesn't really matter the accomplishments. All that matters is the feelings and respect one feels to the Pokémon.

There are multiple ways to become a Pokémon Master. Each one of them gives you a star on your trainer card.
1. Beat the Champions League or training your Pokémon to a high level.
2. Beat the Battle Frontier/Tower or training your Pokémon to be able to beat opponents without type-advantage.
3. Catch every Pokémon.
4. Win every contest.

A master treats their Pokemon with love and fights fairly, intelligently, and well. They always go out of their way to help others and are as close to their Pokemon as if they were their children.

Technichally, you must advance in all three catagories; beating the Elite Four and the Champions, being an expert on Pokemon, and obtaining all the Pokemon in exsistance, of which, with the next generation coming, it's what seems to be impossible, and being ultimately unbeatable.

That's exactly one of the reasons why GameFreak and Nintendo continue along with its winding vastness of characters we know and love, called Pokemon; because we've just "gotta catch 'em all", don't we? I'll never acheive this goal...it'll take years to find the ultimate Pokemon master. Come to think of it, we never will.

Though, you can TRY to be the best in your neck of the woods...but the best in the world? C'mon, Nintendo; make a tournament.

As Evanji said, caring for your Pokemon with love is also important. Love and trust leads to power, via becoming a master of these well known beings.

But my in my opinion it is someone who has collected every single Pokemon known. (Excluding legendaries, but I would think a Pokemon Master would own at least one legendary) And then someone who is a very skilled battler, with puzzling strategies, smooth moves, and well-trained Pokemon. But that's only my opinion.

Aye, how very true. Nobody can really be a Pokemon "Master." You'd have to qualify in soo many things. But, we'll see one.. One day..

Well, I know this may seem a little of a shock, but I honestly don't know. I mean, all I've ever done is try to be the best trainer, never a master. So, in my opinion, there's no real 'definition', of a Pokémon Master.
