What got you into Pokémon?

Pokémon has been with us for 10 years now, entertaining us, and making a part of our imaginations. But it wouldn't have gone mush far without its fans, would it? So I thought it'd be interesting to ask: what got you into Pokémon?

For myself, it all started in October 1999, when the anime started airing in Portugal. I missed the first episode(wasn't too concerned about it), but when I watched the second I was instantly hooked. Then I asked my parents to get the game, and it was a big craze for a year... In 2003 I made a comeback for the summer with Ruby/Sapphire, and history repeated iteslf in 2004 when I bought the 4th movie DVD. Now I'm back again, with help of the new movie, and not planning to let go so soon!

What about you?

Well, to put it short I started in October 1998 I brought the games and have been addicted ever since! I don't think i'll ever stop. After that I started watching the Animé, I have never missed and episode of that, I can't wait for D/P and whatever else after that is coming.

Back in the Christmas of '98 or so, my Uncle got my first Pokémon game. It was Red version. But I was confused and wondered what the game was about since I have never heard of it. So then, a few hours after I opened my presents I started playing Red version. I was not instantly hooked since I had the slightest clue what to do, until one of my friends told me how to get through it. I was stuck because the old man would not move, and I never noticed the PokéMart. So he got me through it. A few days later I got hooked, and it was a really good game. I started watching the Animié. Ever since, I've got every generation as they came out, including the recent ones.

At first I disliked Pokemon quite a bit because it was a fad, and I dislike fads as a rule. Then, late in 2001 I started watching the show and became quite interested. In the late spring of 2002, however, I stopped watching. Then, after a year, around one of my friends I started watching it, but by that time I had begun to dislike Pokemon again. In the time of three or four months some events occured that got me well into Pokemon and I started playing the games. I was fully into it around Thanksgiving 2003. From then on I've been a fan of Pokemon, although I am not as obsessed with the games as some of the other members here.

What a nice topic.. ahh yes it was the first day of school and I saw someone named Danica. It was 1997 and I was nice (lol) so I said hi. She was playing.. pokemon :) So I got hooked and I bought all the games I have had all the gameboy games so far besides green so Im hooked. <3 I love it <3 I remember when pokemon cards were banned from my school, LOL. I use to like those too (dont care much for them now)!

Eheh I got hooked in around 1995-1996. I was addicted to the anime, the game, and everything else Pokemon. Then in 2002, I stopped playing the cards, and up till now, I love the game, and like the anime.

It was when I was 10.

A friend of mine allowed me to borrow his precious Pokemon Red for a few days and I was completely hooked. Unfortunately he took it back, so I messed around with the trading cards for a while. Once the fad began to fade he gave me a copy of Pokemon Yellow and his old game boy (no idea why), but it was great for me.

I haven't left the series since, roll on Diamond and Pearl :D

Wow, for me like most people I was into it way before it hit the big popularity in the States. So wow probably since Pokemon first began. I had seen the anime on TV a few times but just didn't tug at me to watch it. Then oneday I don't know what made me want to watch it all of a sudden but I remember going to Blockbuster and renting a few episodes of it after that the rest is history. I got into the video games as well. Then probably during either the Johto League Championships or Master Quest I sort of got bored with the show and wasn't as into it as I used to be so I thought well looks like I'm not into Pokemon much anymore. So I stopped taping it on Saturday mornings on Kids WB and stopped buying the DVDs. It hasn't been until Pokemon Advanced started that I'm finally back into the show. and even though I'm still behind on some epsiodes and I am catching up! I'm enjoying Pokemon more now then when I first got into it. So there ya have it!

From a Scooby-Doo episode project which was to encompass all sorts of characters. When it failed, my eyes fell upon Jigglypuff and I decided to start off with it, and then my friend told me that it was a Pokémon. When I later saw cards on some Lunchables boxes, I realised that I had to get into it. It all started with the TCG.

Ehh, i dunno, i watched a episode. It looked cool. I saw another one, and over and over and over. It came out that i kept watching Pokemon, and started getting addicted to it, and thats how i wound up here, because of my love and passion for pokemon.

The homoeroticism :). I found it delightful to see so much of it in a cartoon.

Heh, at first I didn't like it, it fell under the sterotype of childish to me... Then as Super Smash Bros. was released I got into it and realized... I could take down three of my friends with Pikachu (Saffron City backwards throw rightmost building). Then I decided to check it out, out of my foolishness I got Pokémon Snap and thought it would be the RPG, boy did I feel stupid. Then I got a Gameboy and started playing pokémon Red. This was all before yellow released, I can't remember or estimate when though. Thank you for reading my life story, heh.

I'm going to have to say the same thing for me, only I saw the cartoon as soon as it came to the U.S., I caught a commerical by accident staying home. I went INSANE with Pokemon, seriously What the Hell was wrong with my brain.

It's all fun now :) I love Pokemon. Just not the anime.

I went to a friend's house, and he showed me a few episodes of Pokemon, and slowly I began to really like Pokemon.

Due to the fact that I didn't own a GBA back in 2003... I couldn't play the 3rd/2nd gen games. (Well I could have played G/S on my GBA but I didn't have one) Almost everybody in my school was obsessed with it. So I was like why not give the animé a try. Ever since then I got hooked onto the anime and the games. A friend of mine game me his Red version. The anime is BORING now.... same old storyline. But the games are still fun.
