What happened to Ash's dream

Bloopinator

Rainbow Trainer
He wanted to be the Pokemon Master and to catch every Pokemon but know when you watch the show it seems like he just forgot and gave up on that dream. What happened?

He only cares about being the strongest trainer now. But seriously, he would never be able to catch them all at the rate he's going.

CyberCubed

Yeah, ok!
When did Ash ever say he was going to capture every Pokemon? In the 1st season? 'Cause I never remember him stating that.

Yeah, in the First Season. In the first episode. Maybe a couple of times after that. He seems to have forgotten it now, though.

Yeah, Ash made that little pledge in the very beginning of the first episode, something like, "I vow to the Pokemon of the world, I will become the greatest Pokemon trainer! The greatest trainer... OF ALL TIME!!!" Well, I don't really remember where in there he said something about catching all the Pokemon, but I'm pretty sure the narrator said it at one time or another. *shrugs*

Anyway, that's obviously not the main goal for Ash anymore. This show would never end, obviously, if they tried to have him do that. Although, it would be a nice idea for some rival of Ash's to have a near-impossible dream like that...

Nothing's happened. Ash still wants to become a Pokémon Master, though in the anime it's still not clear exactly what it takes to do that. What we do know is, contrary to the "Gotta Catch 'Em All" marketing slogan, it doesn't require catching every Pokémon. It's pretty well established that doing so is impossible; getting one of every regular Pokémon is doable, but catching all the Legendaries would be absurd.

That slogan has been ditched except for the few times Team Rocket say it.

He woke up.Or maybe he does have every pokemon he just never used them or talked about them,he keeps it on the down low.Like with Snorlax being his dad but that besides the point.

That's true. I haven't really thought about it, until now. Ash doesn't mention anything about becoming a master or catching all the pokemon in the world. But he most definitely seems focused on battling gym leaders and advancing to the next level. Maybe he's just wandering around having fun but eventually he'll figure something out.

At the beginning Ash said that he wanted to be a Pokemon Master but I guess he changed his mind about the whole thing. I doubt he would have been able to get all the Pokemon anyway.

Personally, I think that throughout his travels, Ash learned that he shouldn't just senselessly catch every single pokemon. He's has seen that some pokemon are better to just be free. Basically, he's matured more in this area and I do remember him saying, after the first season, that his dream is to become a Pokemon master. He may be focusing on a different aspect of that dream right now, such as with the battles and gyms. Even though his rate of catching pokemon is rather slow, he could be a master, since this isn't like the video games. Another idea I had was that he may have started to believe that quality is better than quanity, but I prefer my first idea.

I think in the anime, there are 2 requirements, you have to do atleast 1

Catch All Pokemon Except The Legends

or

Being The Strongest Trainer

I think a few times he said he wanted to catch em all. Remember how he always felt bad every time he heard about how many pokemon Gary has caught?

When has he ever given up on that dream? He still wants to be a Pokemon Master, it's just that the writers never really shown how to become one. They never specified any of the qualifications. We don't know if it means winning a tournament, catching all the Pokemon, or blah.

He was simply getting competitive. I don't remember if he said he wanted to "Catch em' All" or not (I think I vaguely remember him saying that, I'm not too sure), but most likely he's given up on that, catching all the Pokemon and getting his catching record to 386 in his Zukan is physically impossible, it's even harder if you try and get the legends.
