What if Pikachu learned to talk?

sdp

Pokemon Master
I was watching the first movie today and when he thinks togepi fell from the trunk says "Ptogepi", it got me thinking if the writers had gone making pikachu learn words over the course of the show,

i don't think the question is too 'off', but i'm definately glad it never ran through their minds, i mean the relationship with Pikachu would be totally different.

what are your thoughts?

gee that's swell
Um, the fans would die, and not becuase of happiness. If Pikachu learned to talk, ugh, that would be just horrible! Pikachu is better off just saying "Pika Pika!"

And now, I'll never complain about Pikachu again, I like him the way he is, no talking please >_>

well he would be more human like, and loose his 'cute' pet status he has, maybe later he'd end up having a relationship similar to Digimons, yeah, definately a bad idea i'm glad they never thought of, but like i said it wouldn't have been too farfetched,
though i do wonder why they made pikachu say "ptogepi" on that short, has he ever said anything besides that example?

edit:

A better idea would be if Meowth for some reason spoke as translator for Ash and Pikachu. It would be a good episode but could destroy the show. ;025;

Actually, Captain Brain, I think that would be great idea if Meowth ever did that, cause I am a huge Pikashipper (Ash and Pikachu). But, then again, that's probably just me, cause I believe Pikachu's a female and that it has a 'mild' crush on Ash. <3

Anyway though, I heard that at first, they had originally planned to make Pikachu talk. But then, they later decided against that because they thought by having Meowth as the talking Pokemon it would just be more unique and interesting in general than having Ash's main Pokemon speak human language.

I dreamt that pikachu learned to talk somehow. Ash asked it why it didn't like being in a pokeball.

Maybe we all could convince the writers to make an episode like that. Once SOVA is all cleared up. That is if it hasn't already done so as a post has indicated in the New Voice Dub Discussion thread. ;025;

If pikachu learned to talk, it woudn't shut up. The "Pika Pika!" and the Pi, Pikachu!" are PWNsome, neccessary for pokemon.

"Pi pi pi" has always been how Pikachu says "Togepi" in its own language - it would pop up pretty much every time Pikachu addressed Togepi directly. Likewise, "Pika pi" is his way of referring to Satoshi by name.

Personally, I've always felt that more specific dialogue could be an insight into the personalities of all the Pokémon on the show. For instance, the subtitles in "Island of the Giant Pokémon" allowed the writers to further flesh out what Pikachu, Fushigidane, Hitokage, Zenigame, Arbo, and Dogasu were like as individuals. Perhaps if they used this technique more frequently, it could result in more character development on Pikachu's behalf - there's no denying that he's a pretty one-dimensional character.

It would have had a lot more interesting things to say in the first few years of the show. That's my two cents. :/

Maybe my Hypno might use skill swap on Ash and Pikachu.But Pikachu probbly had that langue cause he swears when Team Rocket have go at him

I wouldnt really like it if Pikachu would hold whole conversations
with Ash. :S

But remember the episode ''Island of the Giant Pokemon'' or something like that? You could actually see what the Pokemon were saying because of the sub-titels, now THAT would be cool to see in every episode.

Subtitles would be fine, but if he had a voice...I picture him sounding a little like Diana (Sailor Moon) or a high-pitched Kero (Card Captor Sakura)

NO! NO! NO! He'll lose his cutey little status...and become the second Meowth, besides, I CAN'T IMAGINE him talking in human speech...it's...ridiculous

Pokemon has been on for nine years and during that nine years, Pikachu has only said its name in its' cute Japanese voice. Let's just leave things as they are. I agree subtitles wouldn't be such a bad idea, though.

It would be freaky if Pikachu could talk. I think its better leaving him the way he is.
