What is a Pokemon Master?

No really, what is it? Ash keeps saying that he wants to become the greatest PKMN Master of all-time, yet he never explains what it is to us viewers. Does he have to beat every single trainer in the world to achieve this rank?

There is no definition. Which is why Satoshi stopped saying it long ago.

In context of the games, you have to beat the Elite 4 and then the Pokemon League Champion.

Of course, in the anime the Elite 4 are just all like "WHEEE WE ARE RANDOM PEOPLE!" so... who knows? *shrug*

I think your a little confused BattleFranky, Ash mentions it every now and then. In the Registeel episode when he met nurse joy he told her that he was aiming to become a pokemon master. This was towards the end of the battle frontier saga. So he hasnt stopped saying it.

Now as far as what it is? I really dont know since they never expanded on that. I would like to think that it has something to do with becoming the greatest trainer cuz thats what Ash tries to accomplish. The elite 4 should also be involved since they do exist and ash has faced a few of them so maybe after beating them he will become a pokemon master and that will end his journey.

I have another question... is it once a master always a master? Or is it a title that needs to be upheld and defended?

I wonder though, can there be more than one Pokemon Master? Or is it more of a rank that many people can achieve, as long as they complete certain requirements? The dub chooses to have Ash say "I want to be a Pokemon Master," but there's really no definite article like "a" and "the" in Japanese. :/

...? What does it matter? Everyone has their opinions, and everyone knows who they're referring to, anyway.

I tend to alternate between English and Japanese names. Heck, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for me to use "Ash," "Shinji," "Meowth," and "Manene" all in the same paragraph. (Why I'd be talking about those four in the same paragraph is beyond me, but...)

I wouldn't even start pal, there's some heavyweights around these forums that will rip you to shreds if you try to deny them their right to use Japanese names.
