To alleviate the unbridled (albeit justified) harshness of my previous post, here's something a little more on-topic...
I do like the fact that the show is still well-grounded in strong characterization. We know who Satoshi is, and how he's developed. We know who Haruka is, and who she aspires to be. We know who Masato is, and what his thought process is. Only Takeshi is weak in this area, but primarily because the writers haven't given him enough to do. Even Musashi, Kojirou, and Nyasu remain true to their characterizations - they've become more fanatical than ever in recent years. Heck, even the Pokémon are given individual personalities, which allows for more episodes based on their development as well as the development of their trainers.
In addition to this, I really like the Japanese music direction. Every orchestration is a direct reflection of the action that's overlaid upon it, be it tense, goofy, or touching. I can only hope that PUSA keeps more of the Japanese music in Season 9 - music is a much stronger element in animation (or any visual form of storytelling media) than most people give it credit for.
