I want to get to the battle frontier, so I was wondering. How should I play it? What starter, and should I trade high level stuff over, or should I just play through?

trade over the highest lv obaying pokemon your game will allow to beat each gym. go through the e4 with rayquaza and a heap of revives for an easy win

you should use mudkip for a starter if you want to get through the game fast. Other pokemon you might want to have are Shroomish because when it evolves into Breloom it can be quite useful, Electrike/ Manectric, Ralts/Kirlia/Gardevoir because their evolution stages are better than abra's and learn some good psychic moves earlier but Ralts can be hard to find, Zigzagoon/Linoone for picking up items. Yes that is only 5 pokemon but you should use whatever is good for your team in the 6th slot. I am only making a few suggestions other people might have better suggestions.

That's when you go and find a type effective against Fire-types, such as Water- or Ground-types. You could've easily caught a Pelipper along the way, as well as and Ground-type such as Geodude, Numel.

i don't lose
use only your starter. that is the fastest way to play through the game. it may be tough at first, but once you get rolling you'll be far enough ahead to single-handedly beat the game. i did it with swampert and my ONLY problem came with ludicolo held by wallace in the final match of the elite four, i was about level 74ish. it also gives you a lot of room for picking up items. if you want two, i'd say go with swampert and skarmory, as skarmory is only weak to electric and fire, both of which are covered by swampert, and this way you you'll have somone to cover that pesky ludicolo in the last battle as well.

start with treecko, and if u have another game with higher lvl pkmn, then trade those over from R/S (i dunno if you can. correct me if i'm wrong) and into emerald as soon as you beat juan...

Truthfully if you pick treecko the game gets tricky, tailow doesn't always spawn which leaves that wingull easiest to spot, lotad is weak until he gets surf,

First 3 gym badges, ralts, mukhita, abra, try tailow, and poochyena, now as for the fire type gym there's a solrock hidden nearby which I ditched because most of emerald is ocean.

I vote abra in because he evolves at 16 with confusion, gets pysbeam at 21 25 recover. He also 1 shots almost everything so I had to stop using kadabra
