In my opinion, I think it is all the people who "hate" a certain character or Pokemon. Everybody just gets sick of one of them and then pretty soon they get sick of them all and dont give them a chance, then they stop playing the games and watching the show, collecting and playing the TCG. Like how people post topics like "I hate Misty" or "Pikachu sucks",
just stuff like that, thats just killing the character/Pokemon. You got to learn how to like them, study them and find out what the best thing about them is and don't complain about it. To me that keeps the spirit of Pokemon alive. But thats just my opinion, what do you guys think?

I know that many people that do not watch the show anymore hate that Team Rocket is never original. However it is funny considering that the other reason they do not watch it is that they hate the new generations of pokemon. I think that adding new pokemon adds to the variety.

But that's not for sure. Pokemon's always getting new audiences. It's lasted ten years, and it'll probably last far longer than that.

I think that what keeps the spirit of Pokemon alive is the joy of the characters and the changes they've undergone. Of course, the characters still seem the same, but the story development is interesting. At least to me. Pokemon is only losing fans because there's a whole "geeky" stereotype going around which is completely unnecessary. It's just another anime with a great array of fans.

I think the games keep pokemon alive, loads of people my age went off pokemon, but when R/S was released, a whole new batch of fans were created. It's like a lot of things, the 1st generation don't like them any more, but then the new generation begins to like them because of the new games etc.

Age 12-14:

I loved POKéMON, but I grew out of it by the age of 15.

Age 16-19:

I rediscovered my old POKéMON games and I fell for the **** again. *Oops, sorry for swearing*

very little is actually wrong with the franchise itself.

it's most of the fans that give pokemon a bad reputation though.

I think the thing that keeps it alive is the first generation (Me) and all my peers. Because its a classic for us all. The thing that kills pokemon is this sterotype that makes you the laughing staulk of the world if you like pokemon.

Hmm, this sound like me ;). When May and Max came into the show, I stopped watching for a year. Then I grew to love them for what they are, and started watching again.

What kills Pokemon for me is the people who insist if you're older than 16 you should not be playing it. :/ I'm 21, and I've been playing it since it first came to ths US. It still bothers me when those people say "Get a life" as I HAVE a life, thank you very much. I have a job, friendships to maintain, family to avoid... XD

Pokemon is what I do in my spare time. It doesn't own my life... I think that those kids who think they have to stop liking Pokemon at a certain age really need to open their minds more. The "E" rating means Pokemon is for everyone. Not just kids.

As for the TV show... eh... I don't watch it unless I know there will be a Pokemon I like, such as Mew... *coughmiragepokemonepisode* XD

I too find that it is the people who believe that it is only for a certain age group. I'm 19, still playing Pokémon, still wandering around with my Brock backpack. XD And my Flygon plushie. It's the same as Tamagotchis. Everyone looks at me oddly because I have three, but I don't care. I still find both Tamagotchis and Pokémon fun.

Another thing that kills it is the fans who think that certain Pokémon should fall off a cliff, and their fans should follow. It makes a person not want to share an opinion around here.

I feel that you shouldn't stop liking an entire franchise for just one measly little aspect. I despise a certain Frontier Brain, but I don't hate Pokémon entirely.

What keeps it alive is the little fans. I mean, the little kids who are just getting into Pokémon. They will support it until other interests grab them, leaving Pokémon for the younger fans. That's the way it goes.

But don't forget fans like us. We just can't let it go.

The age thing definately kills pokemon. If it wasn't so age stereotyped then it would probably be more popular with the later teens than it is. It's a pity only a few of my mates along with myself still play pokemon, so to trade or battle you have to do it in secret.

Mind you for me what kills me about the new D/P pokemon is the constant stream of baby pre-evo pokemon being spawned. I want decent useable asskicking pokemon that just BEGS to be used & CAN be used, not another pointless waste-of-time-to-collect-but-have-to-to-complete-pokedex pokemon.

What kills it for me is people telling me I'm too old for it, or back in the day where they made fun of it and me. That made me stop for a few years, having me miss like, all of Johto. Then I got back into it at the end of Johto. Really sucks. >.>
What makes Pokemon great is the complexity. There's so many things to do that everyone can become their own person within the game and be good or an expert at one particular detail about it.

Japan Loves Pokemon.
If Japan loves pokemon, it'll stay here because we'll keep watching the new episodes they make then import to US because they keep making new episodes because pokemon is still big there.

I feel kinda left out because im like the only one who still plays and watches Pokemon out of all my friends. I mean my bro and my friends and his friends, we like all love to watch anime but Pokemon is my favorite! Thats why I want to start going to the Nintendo events to meet Pokemon trainers so I can have the chance to battle and meet trainers. Ive been into Pokemon since the very start, and it would be cool to meet other people that have been at it since the very start. But at least all of us on SPPf have eachother to talk about Pokemon and keep us company :] Thank you guys for being here!

lots of luv!
he age thing really kills. My cousin and a few of my friends meet up at each others houses to use the Union Room in secret so no one would see us. I say that you can be as old as you want and still like it. My brother and parents think that 12 is too old an age to like pokemon, but I don't care.
