What kind of unique travel companion do you want for Ash?

My idea is a companion male or female who has the dream of becoming a gym leader. Ash's companions are always around his age so I believe this is a realistic goal. We could see them training and gaining the knowledge of how to become a gym leader and how they are selected in becoming a gym leader. It would also be interesting to see them use a lesser talked about type and stick to that like normal or dark type and have them do research about this type on their journey as well as see them training and learn from already established gym leaders on their journey with Ash. So what ideas do you guys have?

I want a spoiled pretty rich girl which wants to challenge gyms, she will also argue with Ash. Something I wanted Lillie to do.... cuz her in-game character was sassy at first.. butshe was super boring in the anime for me. Super polite and pointless

A Female Companion who is aggressive and has a tragic backstory and doesn't get along with her Parents so much that she runs away and meets Ash. I'm thinking of someone like James (who came from a Rich Background and ran away from home because of his parents) but Female and around slightly two or three years older than Ash. This would also make a good romance.

Don't Misty/ Iris already check this box? They both were keen on becoming type experts and sort of wanted to become gym leaders. In general, it would make sense for all gym leaders to want to be the best at their respective type.

1) If Ash advances to Master class tier, it wouldn't make sense for him to do gyms anymore. So maybe a trainer who does that would be great with Ash acting as a mentor.

2) Or have some unique battling tournament type setting which Ash simply can't take part in due to some technicality. This could be maybe a Region specific tournament which only native trainers are allowed to take part in or maybe even a tournament for Type Specialist trainers, where trainers need to maybe declare their type up front and only have teams of the specific type. The winner of the tournament gets to challenge an Elite four member with the same speciality.

3) Have a PWC equivalent for Pokemon Contests where Top Coordinators take part.

In game character was sassy at first? Huh? She was literally the most polite character ever in the games. She didn't become "sassy" until she had to confront her mother and even that I won't call "sassy" lmao

Actually I think if you pick the alternative option whenever she asks you something she'll give you an annoyed response iirc

I originally wanted a boy who'd be around Ash's age and a co-protagonist like Dawn was. That was all I wanted for years. Now that Goh is around, the only thing missing is a Dawn-like female character.

Chloe just isn't doing it for me.

My ideal companion would be some one who wants to be a master like Ash so he/she can learn from Ash. I feel this is what the writers should have done for SWSH where Ash is older and tutors young trainers.

Having Ash's companion be a member of the evil team sounds cool and different. Traveling with Ash could make them see the world in a different light or even change how Ash's viewpoint until the ultimate showdown where the companion would have to make a decision on what side to choose.

My ideal companion would be a female player character who is a battler and whose goal is the destruction of the evil team. Maybe in this region, the evil team has wormed its way into the region's Pokémon League, or maybe the Pokémon League is the evil team, itself. The girl would have been kidnapped by the evil team when she was younger but managed to escape. Her backstory would be reminiscent of Green/Blue's (female) from the Pokémon Adventures/Special manga. It would provide a unique goal and one that could bring her into conflict with Ash, or maybe one of Ash's other traveling companions since I'd have her methods be far harsher than Ash's and the evil team would not look to be so bad at first. It would only be revealed to be really bad if one did a deep dive into the team and its background and how far it's wormed its way into decent society in the region.

She would view any gym or League challenge as a means to the end of getting rid of the evil team or at least greatly diminishing its influence on the region. This goal could also cause her to at least dabble in other things like Contests, Showcases, Pokéthelon, etcetera in order to help her develop skills that she could use against the evil team.

At the end of the region, she would join the International Police Force and become Looker's protege. Also, Looker would also help her and the rest of the group take down the evil team beforehand as well.

I would like it if there was a companion had a goal that had less to do with battling, but wasn't just glamour. I was honestly fine with contests, because it required competitive skill and a bond with pokemon. While still appealing to the girly girl demographic.

But I thinkt he one I'd want most would be having pokemon compete in sports like races or the Pokethalon. Lara Laramie was one of my favourite one-off characters back in the Orange League. When XY mentioned rhyhorn racing, I really thought they would incorporate that with one of their new protagonists.

I'd like a protagonist who was mostly like the Kanto version of May. Competitive, but kind. Inexperienced, but capable of learning. With a spectrum of friendly and aggresive rivals. Someone who could conceivably hold the show on their own for several episodes in a row.

I would've liked to have seen a traveling companion who desired to collect Gym badges like Satoshi. In early AG I thought Haruka would do that since she received a Gym badge case from Senri, but then she decided to challenge Contests.

Not to the extent the anime had them in my opinion. Misty and Iris said they wanted to be masters of their types yes but the process of becoming a gym leader or even opening one is never expanded on. Misty initially pushed the idea of being gym leader away and Iris never spoke about being a gym leader until the end. I want Ash to meet them and this be their goal from the beginning.

I can't speak for everyone, but I like seeing proper male and female representation in the cast with at least one member of each of those genders having an active role. So my priority is for female companion characters to shine over male companion characters simply because Satoshi already covers the male representation side extensively.

Beating a dead horse but please give us a female lead that gets focus and is allowed to battle. This has been going on since XY and we are tired. I was hoping after Chloe battled Gengar the trend was fading away but nope. It’s like since then it’s just been “We’re focusing on Ash and the girls are doing whatever they’re doing over there”. Technically the role of female characters started diminishing in BW but got ridiculous since XY. Also I want his next companion to be anyone but Goh. After Journeys they need to put him to rest because his goal is not long sustaining in the sense of entertainment wise.
