• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

What moves would you like to see return as a TM or Move Tutor move?

I would like to see Dig return as a TM. I think it was a great coverage move. I also think Frost Breath should’ve been replaced for Leech Life, IMO. Plus, a STAB Frost Breath with a critical hit would do the same damage as a STAB Ice Beam without a critical hit.

I would like to see Bubblebeam, Tri Attack, Mimic, and Dragon Breath to return as a Move Tutor move. Or maybe one of them as a TM, too.

Frost Breath's utility lies in that critical hits ignore negative stat modifiers on the attacker, positive stat modifiers on the defending Pokemon, and the effects of Light Screen, Reflect, and Aurora Veil. Removing it as a TM in favor of anything else just because Ice Beam is still around probably isn't the best move.

That said, I honestly think they would do well to expand the list of TMs a lot further. The combined TM/HM list has been about the same length since the fourth generation, while since then we've added 234 new moves - almost exactly a third of all that now exist - and are sure to add more during the next generation.

Expanding the TM list, at this stage, is only natural. A lot more moves should be TMs in the next generation, and I think that Dig and Leech Life are good examples.

I won't speak much about tutor moves - those likely won't be relevant for two or three more years since they rarely come in the first installment of a generation, and I'm sure some that I would otherwise like to see as tutor moves would make pretty good TM moves, should the list expand!

Dig and Water Pulse should return as TM moves. There are a few gimmicky TM moves that'd be fine as Move Tutor moves, such as Quash. and Infestation. Speaking of Move Tutors, they should bring back Sucker Punch and maybe add Pluck and Incinerate to the list.

Can I say something unpopular? Can we submit out alot of the common TMs. Sure Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, Earthquake, etc are mainstays.... But they are also way to common. Let's put new (or old) moves in there place. And just change the TM list in a major way.

And if need be just bring back some of those old moves as Move Tutor options (speaking of which also needs a major shake up).

I think those ones are fine the way they are. I think they make great coverage moves. Plus, the accuracy for Blizzard and Thunder isn't that great.

I don't like removing TMs or Move Tutor moves, it creates an environment where you need the old games as well as the new games to stay competitive with a lot of transfer only moves. Nowadays it's sometimes already seen (for instance Power-up Punch Kangaskhan), but in a lot of cases it's somewhat of a more gimmicky thing (like Mimic Shedinja or Mimic Salamence). However, if Ice Beam and stuff becomes a transfer only move for a lot of pokémon that balance can shift quite rapidly.

Confide needs to go.

Bring back Hone Claws. Sucker Punch and Softboiled would be cool too.

I want Power-Up Punch to return as a TM move so that we don’t have to wait for the move tutors to teach it to Pokémon.

They took it away because of Kangaskhan. They'd have to do what they did with Dark Void and Smeargle before bringing that back.

I got no good ideas for returning TMs other than Dragon Pulse.

Maybe bring back some gen 1 moves that haven't been seen in years such as Mega Punch, Mega Kick, Body Slam, Take Down, Double-edge, and Submission? because why not

True but Game Freak could just make Kangaskhan unobtainable, which will allow it to be brought back as a TM.

Swift and Fake Out are cool enough base Normal moves (I miss when Meowth and Pikachu could learn Swift too).

There were a ton of TMs removed in 5th gen that I'd like to see come back, 5th gen nerfed the TM list hard. Water Pulse, Giga Drain, Skill Swap, Dragon Pulse, and Silver Wind would be nice to have again.

We need to fill some gaps. Physical Grass, Psychic moves. A special Flying, Ground, and Rock type move.

Honestly let's think about this. Let's give every type 5 options first off all. 1 weak and strong special attack. 1 weak and strong Physical attack and a utility move.

So for instance Grass would have:
TM Razor Leaf and TM Leaf Blade
TM Mega Drain and TM Energy Ball
TM Synthesis

Doing that for each type would get us 90 TMs. And we could either have 108 so each type could get one more TM. Or leave the past 10 (of 100) what ever type GF opts.

Stealth Rock is another move I would like to return as a TM too. That will allow easier access for Pokémon especially for competitive use so that Bank doesn’t have to be used to use such Pokémon at first.

I would like to see TMs to be expanded to 150-200 count. I don't want to switch out existing moves for others.
Outside of this, I don't expect most of the Gen IV TMs will come back, I suspect they will be Tutors instead.
Irrelevant to all of this, I would like see Terrains finally make the push for Tutors.

I’d like to see Liquidation become a TM move. I know water already has Waterfall as a physical option, but it’s nice to be able to have some choice.

Right now, Drain Punch is pretty much my only wish for a TM from an earlier Gen.

I'd like to see a lower power physical Water TM as an option too to be given early game.
