I pick Starly in the beginning of the game. I use Starly until I can get Cranidos, and I use Cranidos until I can get Shieldon.

I think I've used Gible and Mime Jr. on a couple occasions as well.

On my first playthrough I chose Starly, next I chose Pachirisu. I soon switched them for Cranidos though.

I picked Munchlax in my first playthrough, and Starly on my second playthrough.

Starly. I felt the game was easiest with it and thus picked it through my most recent playthrough.

I picked arceus. Oh yeah, I just owned every capture I tried with my Arceus. I could use any pokeassist when I wanted to. lol, jk

Seriously though, I picked pachirisu because it has the best pokeassist in my opinion. Being able to paralyze the pokemon for capture in the first game made me want to do it again in the second.
