What Pokémon would survive an Ice Age?

What Pokémon would survive an Ice Age?

No doubt 90% of them would be wiped out. I figure some like Shedinja, Glalie, legendarys etc would make it through.

(bought this up as we were talking about mass extinctions in science)

when a mass extinction occurs (be it ice age, meteor, dramatic climate change) almost always the ones who survive are generalists who can adapt best to the new enviroment.

The ones who are too specialised to their way of life to evolve to the new enviroment goes extinct.

So it would acutally be low level pokemon who would surivive mass extinctions, rather then legendaries...

and without competition from the now extinct pokemon, the ones who do survive would evolve to fill niches left behind, and eventually conquer the planet... until the next mass extinction happens after hundread million years or so, then the cycle starts once again.

it wouldn't exactly be a mass extinction if most of the lifeforms on the planet managed to survive it...

I agree with Scrap. Probably pokemon that have alot of fur or are resistance to the cold.

Ditto could survive, if it transformed into something that can resist high colds.

Ice-types would definitely survive. So would the legendaries and the fatter Pokemon like Snorlax, Miltank e.t.c.

don't forget the fire pokemon they are powered by heat.

one that can't suvive would be:
grass, flying, dragon, bugs

Charmander line wouldn't survive due to the snow falling on their tails, and no oxygen= no flame

some fire pokemon wouldn't like Magcargo would freeze to death due to it's slowness

Jynx and smoochum. Able to live in the iciest and coldest of all regions. After the extinction, the jynxes would form up and make a society being smart and all where they would be the head of the planet. Jynxtopia.

Blaze boy, snow is essentially water. The water in the snow would put out the flame in the char's tail. If the fire melts the snow into a liquid which will put the fire out.

Magikarp are said to be very hardy Pokemon. I imagine they'd survive.

Castform transforms with the weather, so no doubt it'd survive.

Most, if not all ice types would survive.

Furry and/or fat Pokemon could withstand the cold.

Slugma/Macargo are basically puddles of lava with eyes and a shell (in Macargo's case), so I think their own body heat would get them through.

Diglett/Dugtro would live too deep underground to be bothered by an ice age.

snow can put out fire, say if Charmander is sleeping, loose snow can drop off, hit the flame causing a lack of Oxygen around the flame to dissapear, killing the flame and the lizard.

Plus, if the snow does melt the left over water will put it out

Pokémon with the Trait Thick Fat would all survive, probably, since that's the point: ice protection.

Shedinja wouldn't live, BTW. Hail still affects Shedinja despite Wonder Guard.

Most Steel Pokémon would perish, too, probably. The steel would absorb the cold and send them into hypothermia.
