As the title says. What Pokemon Teams did you have on your Gen 3 playthroughs? Any great memories? Any Pokemon that in particular stood out?

The very first time I played, I remember really loving my Linoone; despite how mediocre it is and how I didn't know anything about battling at the time either. No IV/EV knowledge, or even really natures.
He was "docile" and "loved to eat", so he actually reminded me of a cat I was friends with.

This was R/S too, since I recall his pickup ability being awesome before Emerald nerfed it.

In FireRed, my team was Venusaur, Fearow, Raichu, Vaporeon, Jynx and Arcanine.
My LeafGreen team was Charizard, Fearow, Victreebel, Jolteon, Starmie and Nidoqueen.
In Emerald, I used Swampert, Swellow, Manectric, Exploud, Gardevoir and Breloom.
In Ruby, I started with Torchic (even though I'm not fond of Blaziken at all now), and my final team was Blaziken, Swellow, Breloom, Gardevoir, Azumarill and Absol. The latter two sadly weren't that good, since their STAB attacks were special-based.
In Sapphire, I remember raising Sceptile, Swellow, Raichu, Starmie, Absol and Gardevoir.

Such great memories came to my mind upon seeing the title. Still remember the first time my parents bought me Ruby and Sapphire, my dad thought they were separate games and got both, lol.

Been such a long time, but Sapphire was my main copy. I used Blaziken, Swellow, Walrein (I thought its eyes were its nostrils.), Aggron, Flygon and either one of Swampert or Crobat.

Sapphire is the first game I found my first Shiny ever: Zigzagoon at Route 119. I also jumped and freaked out when I found out Latias as the roaming Legendary. My next days spent searching Hoenn in and out to solve Latias' mystery and the three caves leading the Regis. I was confused by Braille, which in my opinion should have included a translation book or sorts.

For me, it was exactly the continuation of GSC. I felt the adventure visiting all the places by myself, my kid soul, attempting to wake Snorlax up, resetting my save file because I was stuck in SS. Anne, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Mt. Silver and Red. Raikou, also gave me a sudden heart attack when I first found it like Latias. I feel accomplished as I travel the region and find out something unique, fresh, a never-before-seen Pokémon to me at that time with my friends.

That's why I cherish the moments I had with Generation II and III. When there was no source, or you weren't allowed to surf in the web, you were all alone by yourself and friends to taste the actual feeling of adventure, what Pokémon was supposed to be until the current technology age where we are constantly spoiled intentionally or unintentionally day and night.

It's been a long time but I think I do remember my very first Pokemon Ruby team.

My favorite Hoenn starter is Swampert. I liked Mudkips design the most and was a little surprised to find out it had a ground-type. Another Pokemon I got was Swellow and I almost caught Swellow in my old playthroughs because I just thought Swellow was one of the coolest looking Pokemon out there. Another favorite was Aggron because Steel-types were my favorite back than and steel are. When I got it as an Aron, I liked it's tiny design and I liked both Lairon and Aggron's design as well. In fact it's kind of strange but I always though Aggron was like the "Mega Evolution" of Lairon, a super version of Lairon rather than an evolution. Lairon already looks natural to begin with, to have him evolve into a huge dinosaur was a surprise. Armaldo is kind of an odd one. I now like his design but back than I thought it was kind of strange but I liked it's pre-evolution Anorith a lot cooler because it looked like a steel-type. To my surprise it was apparently a bug-type. Then there was Flygon. I caught it as a Trapinch in the desert area and I thought it already had a cool design having no clue what it was going to evolve to. It evolved into a dragonfly Pokemon, Vibrava and to this day I have no clue how it turns from a cool-looking Trapinch with a sharp mouth into a badass looking Flygon. I honestly thought this huge jump from sharp-tooth to a dragon fly was pretty cool. Another cool one is Absol which I stumbled upon after the flying-type Gym Leader and thought it just had the most unusual Pokemon design I have ever seen. in fact in some ways it looked like a legendary so I caught it anyway. To my surprise, Absol did not had an evolution. I always thought Absol would evolve into something but it doesn't but that's alright because it's already cool anyway.

I used only one Starter in Sapphire which was Jukain (Sceptile), and a whole bunch of Gen III Legendaries which I now regret using since they made the game too easy.

I use three teams per gen so I can use all the starters, even if I dislike the starter's evo line.

My team in Emerald was: Blaziken, Ludicolo, Gardevoir, Sableye, Aggron and Flygon. My good memories was beating all the battle frontier it was very fun.

I have Pokémon Ruby for Gen. III and my team consisted of Sceptile, Grumpig, Camerupt, Slaking, Dusclops and Milotic. The funniest memories are either about Slaking and its "ability" of not attacking, or how I was essentially stuck after beating Tate & Liza for the reason why I couldn't find the submarine base of Team Magma.

I never had teams growing up, not really. But going back and replaying those old games? First, here's my Pokemon Ruby file. I was never able to figure out who'd fit the sixth spot
    • Blaziken: Fit the color of the game, and I hadn't tried out this Pokemon yet. Proved effective
    • Pelipper: It was an early available Pokemon that functioned as both a flyer and water type user.
    • Cacturne: I wanted a Grass type, and the dark cactus worked to fill the role
    • Manetric: Again, rather easy Electric type that pulled its work
    • Solrock: I wanted a version exclusive and a Psychic type, Solrock filled both niches

Kids usually save Groudon or Kyogre or Rayquaza lol, any legendary they think looks cool for the last spot. I know I did hahaha.

When I was a kid, I just used my starter. Here's my later proper team replay of Fire Red
    • Charizard: At the time I had yet to use this Pokemon, and it was the mascot
    • Primeape: I needed something for Brock because I chose Charmander. Mankey and its evolution continued to be useful because they were speed Fighting types
    • Raichu: An early Pokemon and Misty counter, Pikachu proved pretty useful and I ended up keeping her to the end
    • Marowak: Serves to False Swipe as it only became a TM in Gen IV(too long), its Ground type dealt with Electric Pokemon
    • Vaporeon: I soft-resetted for a shiny Eevee, and chose Vaporeon because I already had an Electric and Fire type user
    • Exeggcutor: The Psychic type for me to use

    Sceptile: Leaf Blade/Pursuit/Dragon Claw/EQ
    Swellow: Aerial Ace/Return/Steel Wing/Fly
    Swalot: Sludge Bomb/Shock Wave/Ice Beam/Yawn
    Torkoal: Flamethrower/Protect/Body Slam/Toxic
    Crawdaunt:Surf/Sludge Bomb/Aerial Ace/Thief
    Glalie: Ice Beam/Water Pulse/Crunch/Secret Power

Favorite moment was Steven’s Pokèmon kept getting stat boosts while I kept getting crits and secondary effects like poison. Truly a battle of RNG

Planning on playing through Sapphire or Emerald during my road trip over spring break

    FireRed(can’t remember movesets):

    Honorary mentions:
Pidgeot: taken off once I got Charizard
Vileplume: Sludge Bomb (or any TM) should not be post game

I loved getting my Charizard to beat Blue’s Blastoise

Favorite memory was spending an entire day searching for a Thick Club for my Marowak and ended up getting a Shiny with an Adamant nature

Okay, so funny story, maybe some of you guys and gals as kids did this too. Back when I was a kid, Dragonite is probably my favorite Gen 1 Pokemon and for some reason, I don't know why but I always get Charizard for this FRLG playthrough and a Dragonite and that's it. No other Pokemon but these two. By the time of the Elite Four, my two Lv. 80+ Pokemon would often spam Outrage and Flamethrower.

Very diverse teams. I take it Blaziken was your least-favorite of the Hoenn starters since it was chosen last in Emerald or the reverse?

No I actually really like Blaziken, I just didn't choose it as my starter Pokemon in Sapphire and Ruby because I thought it would have a disadvantage at most of the Gyms. I mean it's weak against the last three Gym types in particular.

My Sapphire team that I finished with yesterday:

Was a fun team but the first half of the game was dreadful since it was pretty much Torchic/Combusken carrying the team

The Generation III game I played with is Sapphire.

    - Sceptile
    - Medicham
    - Camerupt
    - Walrein
    - Banette
    - Salamence

Nothing of better than the battle animations of Leaf Blade, Ice Beam, Aerial Ace and Dragon Claw appearing on this game.
Too bad now Leaf Blade is an Attack move and I prefer to use Sceptile as a Special Attacker.
