What Pokemon would a new main Character Have

If Ash had stayed in Shinoh, and there was a new main character- it would be pretty pointless to have pikachu as his/her pokemon. I think having a water/grass/fire type would be too biased and more people would pick that type. So? What and Why? For me it would be ;251;. A small pokemon- like pikachu. It could be that the trainer saved it or was tied to it and from then on the it fought with the trainer as his/her main pokemon. What do you think? ,kipz
