Putting aside anything about the previous MC leaving, do you think these two have potential? Also, what might the new series be like? Will it directly adapt material from the games or use completely original stories?

It seems too soon to be guessing what their potential could be. The new series was just announced a while ago, we know nothing about their personalities, & they're the first characters since Ash to take on the mantle of main protagonist. I think it's probably to wait for the next trailer to see what sort of potential Liko & Roy have since we don't have anything to go off of at this point.
