What to do in this situation?

First of all, thanks in advance for reading. ;) Now to the subject: I'm working on a series of trainer fanfics, all with the same main character. Why? Simply because I find it very hard, if not almost impossible, to write every single detail that happens.(I tried it with Digimon fanfics. Maximum of chapters I finished was 3) So I just stick to interesting episodes of the trainer's quest.

Anyways, my question involves the name of the trainer. I gave her both a Japanese name, which would be her original, and a name that would be used in the dubbed version. I named her Kanari in the original, but I decided her dub name first, which until now was Hazel. The problem is, later I found out that the main character in one of the Pokémon Mangas was named Hazel as well, in the translated version! -_-;; So I thought of changing her name, but I'm not sure if I should.
On one hand, it's the name that I chose for her in the first place, and it even had to do with herself(her eye color). On other hand, it may stir up confusion with the two characters, not to mention that it's not much pleasing to know there's a character named exactly like yours...

What would you do?

Um, dub version? I don't understand what you mean.

I don't think you need to change the name, unless you're writing a story that takes place in the manga, because that would be confusing.

What I mean by dub version is... Like, if the character I portray in the fic would actually appear in the anime, she would probably have her name adapted to the English version. Like Satoshi-Ash, Haruka-May and so on.

Thanks for the opinion, icemew! ^_^

Hazel... wait. Are you talking about that mangá where the main characters all got nut names (like Almond and Coconut and other nuts)?

If so, then don't worry about the name. That mangá is more of a spin-off than an 'official' mangá that would matter.

Otherwise, I dunno.

I pinch.
I think it's okay if you want to use Hazel, but you might want to have a small author's note at the very beginning (not in the body of the story, before it) explaining that she is not that character from the manga.

For instance, Dragonfree has a story where one of the main characters is named May (she started writing it before May appeared in the anime/games) but didn't change it, she just made a note and kept going.

And you probably don't need to worry about it, anyway--if it was the name of a character from pokémon special or Ono's mangas, then you might have a problem, but I don't think many people have read Magical Pokémon Adventure or whatever it's called.

If Hazel is a main character in a main manga, yes, it could get confusing. Unless Hazel's a really important character in the manga, then keep the name. In my fic, there is a Team Rocket member called Max, but I started writing it before I saw the Hoenn anime. If you've already wrote a few chapters using the name Hazel, then keep the name.

IMO, keep the name. To advoid confusion, just out a disclaimer before the first chapter/prolog explaining that your charater is different from the one in the manga. If you already have much of the fic layed out, keep the name. Even if you don't, just stick to Hazel. Simple as that ^_^
