Well that didn't take long. Not really anyway. I finished Bayonetta (1) on my Switch 2 to my liking. The first thing you should know... is that I played it on Easy because of it's 'Tough' difficulty listing on GameFAQs. I didn't want to be overly stressed or frustrated with the game. Play it however you want if you choose to do so.
There isn't much for me to say about this game in all honesty. So, again, take that however you want. Angels are the enemies in this game. That's unique and doesn't tend to happen. It does happen but not all that much. I also like touching on 'religious' type stuff like witches, sages, etc. but that may not be for everyone obviously. The 'villain monologues' constantly getting interrupted by Bayonetta was honestly great and hilarious and I loved the hell out of that and which stuff like that would be done more honestly lol. It's an extremely fun game don't get me wrong. I had a lot of fun playing the game and it was even very funny and humorous at times. It's just another... 'gameplay heavy' game. It's strongly carried by its gameplay in other words. The story and characters are... fine. They are there. There just isn't much to say about them. It's another 'amnesiac' story which is fine and doesn't really become good until near the end of the game. Character development is there but only for like three characters and it's basically the 'bare minimum' so to speak. None of this is necessarily bad and I'm not saying it's bad. There just isn't much to be said about them either (story or characters) and it's not outstanding or amazing but it's not terrible either. I'd personally say... it's a little above average (not meh or mid either). Like I said... 'gameplay heavy' game.
It's also very 'fanservice-y' (it's an anime term). Basically... lots of sexual shots of a female protagonist even during gameplay. So... that's a thing. It's also why this is one of the games/franchises that gets the 'gooner game' label by some. Yeah I don't really want to say much else here lol. You may or may not be attracted to certain female characters.
You can easily tell how dated the graphics are but it was a PS3/X360 era game. It just shows. It didn't personally bother me but it was 'jarring' to me at times with the 'still shot' and 'film reel' esque cutscenes at times. I'm just saying. I'm too used to current generation graphics I guess.
A couple of things that I need to 'point out' here. First... the game is basically one-way and extremely linear. 'On rails' so to speak. But it's not like I was expecting an open world game. This is just something that is complained about CONSTANTLY anymore so I'm mostly just pointing it out and letting everyone know. Did this personally bother me? Not really I'm just pointing it out/letting everyone know basically. The game is too short if you ask me. It took me 11 to 12 hours to finish to my liking. That's too short I'm sorry. Sometimes I can forgive this. But it's not like I didn't point out that Stray or OneShot weren't short. They very much were. But if other things can make up for it... I can sort of 'not care' or 'let it slide' or however you want to put it. This... unfortunately wasn't the case here. But feel however you want obviously.
Yeah I can't say anything else. It's the first game of a franchise and I can't, and shouldn't, judge a game off of one game letting alone it's first game of a franchise. We'll see how I feel about the other games when I play them eventually, which I still fully intend on doing. If I have to play them on Easy as well? So be it. But, despite what it may seem, I did have fun with this game. It just... doesn't have much else to speak of outside of it's extremely fun gameplay but that's just how I feel obviously and everyone will feel differently.
Next up (which I've technically already started) is Kirby's Return to DreamLand Deluxe. Switch port of the Wii game of the same name (except without Deluxe). There won't be much for me to say about this game either because it's literally the same game with some new stuff. With these short games... I'll be getting to Octopath Traveler 2 and FF16 before I know it. Good god.
