It was a Caterpie, wasn't a big fan of the earliest generics.

PIKACHU!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't figure out how to catch a pokemon until the guy showed me. The first pokemon i found in Viridian forest was a Pikachu. It was my prime fighter in the elite 4.

Nidoran M since i always was a fan of the Nidoking, looked realyl powerful, and the nidos were very helpful in the game.

Like Wailords.
It was Metapod in Blue. I didn't understand, why it didn't make any harm to any opponent with that Harden :'D. But it evolved to Butterfree and I even used it against Elite Four.

mankeys were indeed very good poke's back then, a friend of mine also used one and he usually beat everything with it.
