What was the reaction when you encountered your first shiny?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Why is this ___ different colors! What happened when you encountered your first shiny or what will happen?

I was watching television while doing some quick leveling up. Suddenly I noticed that the Golbat was green and I knew it was shiny. i was so happy but then I noticed something bad. I only had one ultra ball in my bag and as it was down to red and I tossed it, it escaped. I overkilled it afterwards with a hydro pump from my level 100 Blastoise.

I had to stifle my squeal because it was 6-7 am and everyone was asleep.

It was a Pikachu!

My first Shiny was the Red Gyrados. I was like OMG it's a different color! *Catches it*

I reacted the same way Oak reacted when he heard that Blue had beaten the Elite Four.

Red Gyarados was my first shiny, and I was like "Oh! So this is a shiny pokemon... pretty cool!"

I've known about them for years.. my first catch was the red gyarados in gold..but everyone catched that one so it does not count....

my first shiny happened years later in emerald.. I caught a shiny slugma i was like finally after like five years my first real shiny showed up. I caught it.... and eventually traded it for a Space C deoxys at the mew event at toys r us in 2006.

my first REAL shiny was an aron, at the victory road in Sapphire.
I didn't know what shinies were back then, i just thought the gyarados was just 'red' because it was.

Anyway, i see this red-eyed aron, and i thought, what the hell. what is up with that.
And i thought, would this give me more exp.? So i wwent water spout with my lvl 80 Kyogre. Aron fainted. Normal exp. mm... that was weird.

... It was years after i realised that that was a shiny.

I was like, "What?! Why is it purple? Maybe I found a glitch or something, got to catch it!"
Then when it evolved the first time "Okay let's see what it becomes... Cool, now it's all pinkish, I love pink."
Then when it evolved the last time "Wow now its... Purple again, kind of, sort of. Well that was kind of a disappointment."

I lost the game it was on but if I had known it was a shiny then I wouldn't have boxed it like I did.

Don't really remember, in fact as far as most shinys go, I don't like the alternat colorings.

First shiny was a Zigzagoon, I was walking in Petalburg woods and it suddenly appeared. Back then I didn't even know about shiny Pokemon so I was like "OMG! An orange Zigzagoon!? WTF!!? So cool!!! It even sparkled! Gotta catch it! Gotta catch it!" And after I caught the Zigzagoon, I called all my friends and told them about that rare thing then I evolved it and made it breed with my other Linoone with the hope that the baby would have a different color too though of course I failed still that encounter got me excited for weeks.

You're quite a different player from me. My first instinct is always: capture it.

Ghost in Pokemon Tower? Capture it.
Dead Marowak? Capture it.
Other people's Pokemon? Capture it.
Random enemies from RPGs that aren't Pokemon? Capture it.
My own Pokemon? ...can I capture them again? (Love the Pal Park for this)
Random object I find on the street in real life? Capture it.

I'd heard about shinies before, but it was still pretty exciting to finally find one.

my first legit shiny was a weedle during the bug catching game in silver. had no clue what it was, but i thought it would win me the contest. so i caught it.

had no clue about shiny pokemon then. i eventually evolved it and used it on my pokemon stadium 2 game, a green beedrill with a lot of sparkles. pretty cool, i thought.
