Sceptile, Swellow, Medicham, Milotic, Torkoal and the sixth rotated alot.
I got Sceptile because when my friends and I got the 3rd gen games, we all decided to use a different starter. So we played rock, paper, scissors, and being the horrible rps player I am, I lost. So they got first choice and left me with Treecko. Over time I've grown to love Sceptile, and now he's one of my favorite pokemon.
Swellow was because I thought Tailow was adorable, and I usually try to get a good Flying pokemon as early as I can.
I got Medicham because the Fighting/Psychic type combo seemed really cool. It ended up he was a vaulable asset with Pure Power.
I went looking for Feebas because I needed a good Water-type, and the other new ones were already being used by my friends. So I went a fished on Rt119, and was extremely lucky because the first square I tried had Feebas.
I got Torkoal to round off my team with a Fire-type. Not to mention he's the cutest little thing.

and i just wanted to beat the game so i could play it =P
i dont make teams for cartdiges...why?
i beat the games so i have all functions of training/breeding/ev training/etc and then make teams for realgam tower in Col/BF in emerald/to battle against a friends team =)
EDIT: i all the time had spheal(surf/rock smash/waterfall/dive) and tropius(fly/flash/strenght/cut) with me xD

Blaziken, Minun, Groudon. This was before I was a smart trainer in my Ruby.
They owned though, it was hard fighting Maxie and Flannery, as you may believe, but they did good. Spent long nights saving in fromt of the Elite 4 over and over.

I don't remember the 6th guy. R/S were much more difficult than G/S. I don't think the pokemon were as good in R/S as well as the length of the game was shorter. I mean, in Silver, I spent hours fighting Team Rocket Grunts, whilst in Sapphire I only spent less than 30 minutes all together.
