If*you could change anything, any rule, major or minor about the mechanics of the pokemon games (specificly R/S/LG/FR) the way the game works, or changes to specific pokemon, what would it/they be?

I would change a few things about ;027; and ;028;, I think they should be ground/normal so they could get the STAB from their claw attacks, besides it would make sense in my opinion to add it to their types. Seeing as how Sandshrew can be found in an above ground environment (outside of Cerulean) that means they obviously don't spend all of their time under ground and thus are not true ground Pokemon. The same goes for Phanphy and Donphan I think.

I also would be in favor of some pokemon having two abilities that work at the same time. For example, Tyrannitar having his sand stream ability as well as sturdy or some other ability. I think two abilities should be the limit though and no pokemon should have more than two. In fact I think it would make the game a whole lot more interesting if there were very few pokemon that only had one ability.

I would change the fact that every time I enter a town or city, Latias/Latios moves to a new spot. I fact, don't let them move at all...let them be in some tower like Rayquaza.
I'd also like to fix those weak floors in Sky Pillar...get some new cement or something. XP
Have Feebas not be so incredibly rare.
Let me Berry Blender with myself.

Make shinies more common. Not super common, but you know. Not incredibly rare, especially to the unlucky people. T_T

What? Exactly
get rid of Luvdisk, Dunsparce, and Smeargle.
Also have an item that can tell you the I.Vs of your pokemon

It's electric!
A counter that tells you how many more steps you have to hatch an egg
Having more than just eight gyms so you can be able to train better.

Nothing to be done
I'd get rid of HMs. Surely there must be some other way of hindering your progress through the game. They could just make it so that you could teach your Pokemon the techniques, but they wouldn't double as attacks, forcins you to waste a moveslot. I realize that HM slaves can be used, but take Hoenn's Victory Road, for example. You need a whopping five HM moves to make it through, and if you leave a team member behind for an HM slave, it misses out on some of the most valuable experience in the game. So please, no more HMs.

having the game outright telling you how many EVs your pokemon have, rather then have very cryptic clues that allued you to their existance.

being able to gain the max amount of EVs in 3 stats rather then just 2, making pokemon much more versitle.

being able to gain EVs in different ways, the current system seems to favour sweepers as opposed to tanks, annoyers and other defensive stradgies.

Jynx also should get bigger pupils to make her less "dumb" looking, thus making her cute like Smoochum.

also getting the right hidden power much more easily.

Ampharos getting Tail Glow, and other pokemon getting appropriate moves as well.

in terms of graphics, I would most definitely improve on the battle system in the 3D games. Pokemon should just run up and hit eachother, as with most 3D RPG battles. Now, there may be some programming complications if it wasn't worked to be overly detailed (like if a Pikachu used a Quick Attack on a Whaleou, their wire frames would probably overlap), but such minor graphical errors are nothing compared to the crappy, time-wasting battle system we have now. I'd also like it if you could see which Pokemon is using Fly/Surf/whatever (and there could be a unique animation depicting the character riding each one. It could range from just sitting atop a Whaleou, or comedicly hanging onto a splashing Tattsuu), and maybe even the option of letting at least one Pokemon in your party follow you on the map ('course, they'd have to be recalled in certain areas if they're too big). Though, I could understand if the sprite-based games couldn't have those, the Game Cube RPGs definitely could've (Pokemon use the same 3D models for both in and out of battles)... a real shame the GC RPGs don't even have HMs. Contests in the 3D games would also be nice.

As for the gameplay, I think it'd be nifty if there was a bit of a farm simulation side-quest. At some point in the game, you could buy your own patch of land and plant berries. And, of course, you'd be able to fly to this patch of land. No longer do you have to fly to the nearest city and trek through some tall grass, possibly wasting seconds of your time having to off/run away from whatever wild Pokemon you might come across, only to pick a couple trees at most. If you're not attending the garden yourself, you could also leave behind one or more of your Pokemon (it requires a high happiness and level, obviously because it needs to trust you, and because it would need to fend itself from intruders). Different Pokemon left behind could yield different effects. For instance, some Pokemon could increase the rate of berry growth, others could increase berry yield, others could pick the berries and automatically put them in your PC (maybe even replant the plot for you).

On the subject of berries, all of them could probably find a bit more use outside of contests. For instance, you could feed them to your Pokemon to increase their happiness (certain Pokemon will have favorites), or much like how some berries gained the ability to decrease EVs in Emerald, there could be some berries that decrease their contest stats, and in the process, their saturation, just in case you screwed up there.

I think the effects of Fly and Teleport should be tweaked a bit. Fly should be reworked so that you can go around the world, much like how you're able to use an airship or some other flying mechanic in most RPGs (ex. Final Fantasy series). Teleport, meanwhile, could allow you to select a specific point to go to, much like how Fly is now.

I would make it much harder to catch a legendary, like Articuno only appears in 1 out of every 100 games. This would make it more balanced. Also maybe make the stats better for some pokemon.

Ground doesn't really mean underground all the time, does it? :p Besides, Sandslash/shrew are those type of desert shrew things, that burrow.

For me, I would change the music in some parts. :p It does get quite annoying, and I don't want to adjust the sound, when I had it in like.. the right position! >;(

Make it so that you can only use the same amount of Pokemon as the gym leader. It's WAY too easy when you can use six Pokemon against the gy leader's three.

I would change the Bike and stuff like let people choose like Scooters Skates and a Bike Each does their own thing.

porbly the weather like every 3 hours in the game there would be a news report telling you the weather and after that the professor can call you to tell you that theirs some pokemon that comes out only in this weather. "you should go catch it -insert hero name here- it might be a once in a life time experience!"

we need more moves =\

night and day needs to come back x.x

Teleport do the same as Baton Pass, Counter hitting Ghosts, and Mirror Coat hitting Darks. And then give Mirror Coat to Espeon.
