Ash has to win a league at some point, right? I mean, surely the wonderful writers of Mon wouldn't continually show him getting better only to be bested at the last moment, would they? WOULD THEY?
...well, if nothing else he'll probably win whichever league takes place right before the series ends. They can at least do that much, I'd hope.

Satoshi's gonna pilot an EVA! OK, but seriously... you know that at some point, the writers are gonna do an episode in which Satoshi wins a...
[spoil]mecha battle. He tries to control a Rocket mecha that suddenly went berserk and goes against another mecha that Rocket Dan once again pulled out of nowhere. XD
Seriously, though, it seems near-guaranteed by this point that Satoshi will win a tournament at least before the series ends. They wouldn't end the series before he acheives that point, not after coming this far with all the build-up... or at least, we can hope. Though, I really do think the mecha-piloting (not exactly an EVA... though, who wants to bet Rocket Dan will eventually pilot something with a design obviously inspired by a certain series?) could happen at some point. Some filler episodes turn out to be pretty good, actually, and the writers have shown time and again that they can use all sorts of wacky ideas in such fillers. So with that said, an episode focused on Satoshi trying to pilot a mecha, especially one of Rocket Dan's concoctions, doesn't seem far off. It's currently seems more probable than the GS Ball showing up again, at least.[/spoil]

Okay, we can automatically mark off options 2, 3, 5, and 6. Never gonna happen.
This leaves us with either "GS Ball plot returns" or "Ash wins a league." At this point in time, I could only see the first happening in the event that we're sent off on a series in Johto after Sinnoh in order to advertise the G/S/C remakes which I kinda hope happen sometime in the future. However, given the lack of throwbacks within Kanto v2, I'd say that the scenario of the main people happening upon Azalea Town to help Kurt finally resolve the GS plot is rather unlikely.
