Because it's evil, beautiful, and certainly has a good movepool (I must admit even though I'm a guy absol's not with out it's... charms) Plus dark is a very popular type

Meh, it's more to do with it's design. See, why's Scyther popular? It's just a Pokemon. mostly to do with appearance, where Absol actually looks cool, unlike Scyther IMO.

Everyone loves it for it's awesome design, even though it's stats aren't so hot, it's still cool.

Why do I like Absol? It's called an OPINION.

It's a Pokemon with nice attack and great movepool, so why shouldn't we like it? I happen to be raising one. Which would you rather use against a Gardevoir, Absol or Weedle? 99.9 percent you would choose Absol. IMO at least.

It's not one of my fav Pokemon, but I do like it only because it looks cool and the Absol in the 6th movie and the Absol episode in the 8th season were cool.

But I like, say, Umbreon better.

But the initial "appeal" is the design, and for goodness knows what reason lots of people like Scyther and Absol. Although Absol's OK I guess. Still prefer Umbreon though.

Most people probably just like solely because it's a dark type and some what canine-esque in appearence. Usually, both of those factors tend to be default reasons to automatically like a pokémon, so it's no surprise that Absol has it's fans.
To be perfectly honest, I'm surprised it has yet to surpass the likes of Umbreon in terms of collective fanbase. But whatever...

Myself? I like Absol because it isn't exactly...well...the typical quadruped pokémon. It's head looks vaguely human-like, and with that sickle-like growth it makes Absol stand out from the crowd. For the line of pokémon it's usually associated with, Absol is pretty unique.
But then, it's not like I'm that big an Absol fan anyway, so what do I know?

Because the people that are labeled "emos" heart its oh-so-dark-and-depressing-looks-and-persona. According to a bunch of people I know anyway.

To me though, Absol is just another Dark type Pokemon that I enjoyed raising. Hell, he even has the typical trait of Dark Pokemon... crap Special Attack.

Like PDL said, Absol is unique. I even have it in my fanfic due to a mysterious purpose.
