What's so good about Pokemon?

To highlight main points...

For one, the diversity of team members you can include on your team. No other RPG can boast that, and the vast majority of members available aren't meant to be mythical creatures of lore or anything of the such; they're simply intended to be creatures with which everyone is used to seeing.

In addition, I enjoy the sense of exploration that the game provides; your primary goal is going on a journey, discovering the world, and rising to the top as opposed to just fighting some nefarious villian. The storyline praises your self-accomplishments and encourages you to further them; defeating the no-good team is an aside more than anything else.

Thirdly, the light ambience of the game allows for a breather from heavier RPGs and games. It can be played just for fun, or you can get involved with other people in it. Light-hearted or competitive, link battles and the in-game journeys always strike me as enjoyable.

These points only begins to describe the vast and unique world of Pokemon.

expertly put Eszett :)

the members of your party are not limited to a select few cast of characters like most other RPGs.

Pokemon also blurs the line between who's an enemy and who's a friend because any "enemy character" can potenitally become a teammate. (provided that they are wild pokemon)

another thing that sets pokemon apart from other RPGs is that each monster is given it's own personality and purpose. None of them can be a "generic monster baddie".

It is also a magnificent strategy game, you choose a type in a battle that can defeat the other via disadvantages and advantages...

It's like one big game of Rock Paper Scissors in battle.
And the storylines are pretty good and it is a pretty much open end RPG, not as much as neverwinter nights but still...

That pretty much sums it up. :)

That, and the fact that it's freaking addictive.

If all that Neo-Theo relies on is the Pokemon Anime, he's gotta get out from under his rock.

Eszett put it extremly well, but I really enjoy Pokemon because of the vivid character creations and how the plot thickens during gameplay. Pokemon games are well balanced, so they're pretty easy to make your way through, but I love when the games are long-lasting.

Nothing to be done
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the collection aspect, and although it's taken back seat to the battle side of the games, the "Gotta Catch 'Em All" trading system was a big part of why the series became so popular.

Well, it's a light-hearted, fun game as opposed to the "OMG ANGST" mood of Final Fantasy.
Also, there's more than a quarter thousand different team members, all with endless combinations of attacks (don't mention Magikarp to me, wise *sses). No two Pokemon are exactly alike, and today's training fodder could well be your pride and joy battler next week.
Most RPGs have nothing to do after the final boss, but Pokemon offers a lot, especially the Battle Frontier. And unlike other RPGS, your game can interact with your friends game, so you can test whose Sceptile strategy is better.
Finally, there's tons of room for fanfiction, because the party members don't have set personalities. One trainer's pride and joy could be a fearless, aggressive Kingdra, another's powerhouse a mellow, laid-back Typhlosion who'd rather nap then fight, and a third's strongest a cunning, calculating Scyther.

....What Eszett said.

A really good thing is that you can trade and fight with your friend, which is always fun. :)

Seriously, I'd like to know.

Are you a neo pet lover who hates pokemon -_-

Pokemon is so good because there are lots of pokemon each one being different and because the game possibilities seem endless. (involves EV traning, battling etc.)

I think the games are the best thing about Pokemon. You can battle your friends, have many different pokemon on your team, and you can trade pokemon to strengthen your teams.

What's so good about Pokemon? It's spawned hundreds of web-boards hosting millions of people who all agree that playing Pokemon makes them happy. "If it makes you happy, it can't be that bad."

If you honestly joined here just to say that, which you have since you only have one post, there is really something wrong with you.

The above points answer your question.
