What's the deal?!

While looking around on the forums, I noticed that many people seem to hate the PS2, calling it various things (the tool of the dark side is an example).

What's the deal?! I, myself, own a PS2(I used to have a GC as well, but my mom made me give it away. She said that 'we don't need two game systems in our house!'). It has good games(Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and Metal Gear Solid 3), and can play DVDs and music CDs.

So, what's the deal? Why does everyone seem to hate the PS2?

My guesses:

1. Because Sony left Nintendo and took almost everything away from it, especially the Final Fantasy series.

2. Xbox has a better online system than PS2.

3. The Playstation consoles lack originality.

PS2 hatred? Where? I think you're confusing the so-called "hatred" for PS2 with the PSP. The PSP gets way too much flack here.

Because, just like any other forum, there are fanboys in here.Fanboys who, instead of just enjoying their prefered console, also feel the need to bash the other ones.
These people just don't realize that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all have great consoles. Whether you like them or not is only a matter of opinion, but you can't deny that they are all decent systems.

Playstation and Nintendo were the two main competetors, when Bill Gates decided to want an extra couple million. So, ripping competetion from PS2 and Gamecube, he developed another game system.

I like PS2 better than Microsoft's Xbox. Evcept for Halo. Bill Gates could've just bought off Sony's game team designers.

It's not fanboyism. It's revenge. Look at any non-Nintendo board and you'll see people flaming the DS and Gamecube and calling them kiddie. All of our bashing is against the Nintendo haters who own the systems, not the systems themselves.

If your reason for bashing a console seriously is the fact that others bashed your favourite console, please grow up. Be the wiser one instead of lowering yourself to the level of a bashing fanboy.

Sony products tend to be unreliable. Fortunately, I have been blessed with two seemingly reliable PS2s, although I have had to maintenance them myself.

However, the PS2 has some of the better games so I have nothing wrong with it, but now it just lacks the graphics.... on some games anyways

WTF? There's nothing evil about PS2s. I don't own one, but if I were ever to find one really cheap, I'd get it. There are a few games I'm interested in. (Kingdom Hearts, Darkest Faerie, random RPGs...)

First off, the theme of this sight is based of an Nintendo video game. So chances are everyone here, who plays video games, has a Nintendo system. THat is why more popularity is on the Nintendo side.

First off, Nintendo systems are cheap. $100 for a Gamecube, controller, and a game. Take away the game and the controller, the sytem is only $30. Sony on the other heand, pay $200, take the dedectables, and the system is $170. Also the games you mentioned are either gone/sold, or multi-platform. The other reason people like Nintendo is they are the only company with 1st-party games. Notice how many Nintendo games use the touch screen constantly vs. 3rd party games. Likewise with the mic and actually using the two screens, they and some strong 3rd party companies. (LIke Sega). Speaking of Sega, there games have a constant LAG with there games. I can say this, and I HAVE played BOTH systems, that Nintendo is better. Sony just gets buy with boring lurxies and graphics, and leave the games to the 3rd-party companies. Which is why they aren't good. Plus Nintendo realeses one 3rd party game each month.

Second off, how many times has that idealistic garbage been recited? "Don't lower to their level". I know that they are low, but they suffer no consequences. How can people just sit by and watch other people talk **** about the stuff they own? They are never punished for it, and the worst thing that happens is an "Amen" from the people listening. How can we be expected to watch other people calling our system "kiddie crap" and sit by and do nothing, and then watch them get away with it?

Besides, even though they are sinking to a lower level, how many people within their system's community regard calling it "kiddie crap" as sinking to a lower level, when they're too busy saying, "Hahah, true!"

I didn't say Nintendo started calling other consoles kiddie, I said every console forum has been bashing other consoles since the beginning. There's always someone who bashes other consoles for some twisted reason.

Secondly, "idealistic garbage"? Well, I guess the whole "killing people is bad" thing is idealistic garbage then too. It's called "acting like a normal person".

And how can we watch other people bashing stuff we own without doing anything? We don't have to do that, I never said that. I just said we shouldn't lower ourselves to their level. Just point out what a pathetic little fanboy the person is who says your console sucks, that should do. There is no need to bash his prefered console, just bash him.

Oh and people have a desperate need to attach themselves to a single brand and disregard anything not made by that brand, it' human nature for people to gather in packs and to try to associate themselves with others in said pack. One of the main ways of building a stronger association is by hating those who aren't in your pack.

However being an Apple fanboy doesn't fall under this umbrella, my computer really is so much better than yours and Bill Gates eats babies, honest=P.

I don't hate PS2. I don't like it either. I do recognize that it has more exclusive killer apps, but it's still graphically inferior and more easily breakable.

That article states the name as a rumor from 2004. Since it hasn't been declared as a fact, it hasn't been confirmed. I doubt that they would go with x-Boy, cause they are gonna wanna be more competitive with the PSP. Anything with boy in it's name would not help. Boy somewhat implies kiddie. I think the X-Pack name sounds pretty decent. Heck, x-portable sounds better than x-boy. LOL. I think each handheld has it's strengths and weaknesses. All I can say is that the handheld has come along way since they first were introduced. Whether that includes color based games and 3D looks is irrelevant. Both gaming systems (DS & PSP) are Awesome. Personally, I prefer the PSP to the DS. But I like em both. Based on the games that I have for both systems, I have to say that more mature titles seem to be available for the PSP. That's why I say that the DS (or GBA) is a kiddie system. I'm not trying to be hateful or name calling when I say that. It's just my interpretation of those games available for the 2 platforms that I am commenting on. Just thought I would point that out since someone brought up the kiddie issue up above. Again, BOTH systems are awesome. I have a PS2 and Gamecube also. Love the games on both of them too. Though I do prefer the Gamecube over the PS2. That's mainly cause I am more familiar with the Gamecube though. I've had it for 2 extra years than I have the PS2. Can't live without the PS2 though.

I am not a fan of any of the consoles nor their companies. But personally I really hate Sony. Personally I think that Sony's products tend to break properly. They were doing alright to start with, but now they're trying to get in with EVERYTHING and it's starting to ruin.
