lol... as expected, too much love for Johto.
I like every Region equally, except for the two Island Regions (Both are meh-ish...). They all have their ups and their downs.
I like Kanto because it was the original, and in game terms, had the longest dungeons. Even so, it was very plain in design, had mostly blankety GYM Leaders and lacked MAJOR depth and history...
I like Johto because of all the history and culture regarding Pokémon. It also has my most favorite group of GYM Leaders. It would have been the best Region if it wasn't for...
-The plain design. As plain as Kanto... and no. The system's power is NO excuse. If they had stripped Kanto off GSC, I bet they COULD'VE come up with somewhat Hoenn-esque scenarios, just a bit watered down.
-The lack of focus on 2nd Gen Pokémon. Even if 19 Pokémon were related to old ones, and even if the Region is near Kanto, it was a BIG mistake to give us Kanto Pokémon again. Plus, a HUGE amount of the culture was severely focused on Kanto Pokémon, which is sad and unfair...
-Blatant lack of identity as an individual Region. All Johto ended up being was a Kanto subordinated. Why? Because the 8 Johto Badges took you to the Kanto League. It ended up just as an alternative, when it earned MUCH more...
I like Hoenn because of the magistral landscapes and scenarios you go through. You FINALLY see diversity in the areas: desert, jungle, volcano, mountain, beach... it goes on. It had creative cities/towns (Pacifidlog, Sootopolis and Fortree were EXCELLENT.). The ONLY con I could find was its lenght: too short overall. The GYM Leaders, though MUCH better than the Kanto ones, fell short of the brilliant Johto ones. It also lacked a wee bit of history and culture, but it had its fair share of mysteries, which balances out...
I like Orre because it's not a happy-go-lucky place, as are most Regions. It's a somewhat anarchic area, where crime and misdeeds are at its fullest. The makeup of the Region is also very bizarre: most of it is engulfed in an expansive desert. There's a big volcano, an oasis-esque hill, and even a town below ground. Everything is pretty much controlled by an evil organization that conducts experiments in Pokémon. EXCELLENT background, and the darker make-up is also intriguing and a change from the usually nice Regions. It just lacked that bit of exploration and lenght, alongside culture, but it's OK. Orre was meant to be different, and it made a darn good job at it.
I like them all. Islands bore me a lot, though...
