When Pokemon came out, what was it like for you?

I remember when I was in second grade a thing called Pokemon was getting popular. Anyway one day my friend came over and forgot his Blue Version and his gameboy at my house. I started playing it and couldn't stop I was lucky cause it was a friday and I didn't see him till monday at school. I was at my moms and it was my time to go to my dads for the weekend.

Anyway my soon to be grandfather(grandma marrying him, my grandmas young, only 50) was at the house and he seen me playing it. When I took a break he started playing it and I couldn't get it off of him lol. We started a new game and got to Vermilion city but had to give it back to my friend.

Next weekend he took me to get a gameboy and a blue version. This started the dedication to pokemon for the next few years.

Me and John(grandad) were addicted to Pokemon. My grandma got mad at us cause we were playing all day lol. So we would go out to say Burger King and play LOL. I remember finally catching them all, every single one( it was hard too cause we had to restart a few games like 3-4 times).

Then Silver and Gold came out and we played that too, but then some how I grew out of pokemon.

I'm glad I was around though when pokemon first came out, before all the IV's EV's or whatever it's called.

Sorry for the long read, it just brings back memories lol, so what was it like for everyone else?

I first got hooked on Pokemon when I was young and saw an episode of the anime. It wasn't until 2000 that I got a game though.

Feel my soul
My cousins Colorado came about a year or so that Pokemon came out in English. They were totally obsessed with it. XD They got me to watch the anime, and then I got into it too. ^^ I collected a lot of the merchandise, like the action figures, and some of clothes. When I got older, I got a GBA and then bought Ruby for it, and then I started to like Pokemon even more.

Nobody At My school played it until I did. My mom's freind lives far away from where I live, and one day we went to go visit her. She has 3 kids. They were telling me aobut the pokemon anime, and how the movie was coming out. (the 1st one) Their family took me to go see it and then I started watching it. Then Ih eard about the games. Then my best freind started playing it when I showed it to him. He was like the popular kid in school. I was polpular, but not as much as him. When people saw him playing it, they started playing it. So I started pokmeon for my school (I feel so special).

The same thing happened with yu-gi-oh, except I saw it when I was flipping through the channels. I showed it to my freind, we started dueling our selves, we brought our cards to school, they copied us. I guess every body in my school lived under a rock...

A kid on the same street as where I lived showed me Red when it first came out. So I asked my mom to buy it for me, and she did. And I've been playing since. I used to watch the cartoon until about halfway through Kanto before I got sick of it.

Hugging 'til the end
All my partners were collecting Pokémon stuff, except me. I was like... "uh?"

Then, Channel 5 in Mexico began airing Pokémon before Dragon Ball. I loved Dragon Ball so I always turned on the TV like 10 minutes before so I could watch it. One of those days, the gym battle in Cerulean was airing and I turned on the TV. I watched it and I was like "Awesome! Remarkable!" Then I began watching it and collecting stuff of Pokémon =D

I turned on the TV, and the second episode (Pokémon Emergency!) was on. I kept watching one episode a week, until the Exeggutor episode. Between those episodes, I got into the game and trading cards. The cards were popular at school, or at least they used to be. I had connections to Japan (my grandma used to live there), so I always had the most interesting cards. I also had a fair bit of Promo cards too, so I was known to have the "best" cards. I carried them in my binder, and I even had to put a padlock on, for fear of getting cards stolen.

I was into Pokémon so much back then that I was ahead of everybody because I actually went on websites that get their information from Japanese sources (before SPP, Pokémasters provided my fix), so I told everyone about all the cool stuff about the second generation when I was in elementary school. I did the same thing with the fourth generation at my friend's party last month.

I don't remember anyone actually getting into Pokemon, until the anime was released here.
I DO remember seeing Red and Blue in the games area of one of a shops, and thinking "Huh? Poke-mon?" I walked away, and kinda thought it was some lame version of a cartoon.....I think that's what I thought...???

No one at school brought their Pokemon stuff until G/S came out. Things got real interesting then on!

I was 9 or 10, and I was the first person in my school to find out about it, years before.

I was also the first to get it hehehe. I was awestruck and I haven't stopped loving it any less since it first came out.

(but PLEASE give us a G/S conversion T__T)

I really don't remember except getting my first copy of Red, and seeing a tape of episodes in a store, imediatly asked for it
