Where do you rank ORAS compared to the rest of main series?

That excuse was always flimsy. For one, HGSS had no problem including Crystal content. Second, the remakes are supposed to replace the originals on the market since the originals are too old to be played on recent hardware. There is no Emerald remake, so if you have to buy the original Emerald to experience certain elements of the originals, the remake isn't doing it's job. Lastly, the game was lacking in content, like every 3DS game. There just isn't much to do after the story's over, arguably less than Emerald. Having Emerald's extra content would've addressed that. Overall, it's just underwhelming and feels like a step back from previous remakes, especially HGSS.

I'm a little biased since Hoenn is one of my least favorite regions but I thought ORAS was weak because of the post game and hand holding. The lack of battle frontier really dissapointed me.

I would say that ORAS is among the best Pokémon games I've ever played. The DexNav feature allowed me to find Pokémon with some desirable characteristics and it is because of that I find ORAS one of the better Pokémon games. I also liked its convenient breeding spot at the Battle Resort, in which there is not just a Day Care Center, I could also check a Pokémon's IVs in the Battle Resort Pokémon Center while cycling around by holding only one button (which is also really good) so that I don't have to Fly to other places to do the same thing, making it a good game for breeders. Other than that, I still felt that ORAS was in some way incomplete because of the lack of a Battle Frontier but the Delta Episode was really good though not just it felt really intense but it was also because I could catch Deoxys.

I felt it difficult to vote on this because I know R/S/E are my favorites, hands down. X/Y are an easy follow-up, but after that... eh? It's like a three-way tie between D/P, B/W, and OR/AS. I couldn't get super into OR/AS, and at first I thought it's because I love R/S/E more than any other generation, but when I look back on it... it just didn't feel special. I love X/Y for how it changed Pokémon and for all of the additions it included, and both teams I created in each of my copies of X and Y are two of my favorites ever. I liked the team I had in OR, and it had some cool new features (I never really got used to the newer graphics, purely because I've played R/S/E waaaay too much), but it doesn't stand out as being a "great" game for me.

I think if D/P had a remake and if B/W was remastered or something for the 3DS (I very much dislike playing DS games on a 3DS), OR/AS would probably be much lower on my rating. D/P has some great lore and brings back almost just as many memories as R/S/E, and B/W was a ton of fun to play late in high school when I was feeling like I was getting too old for Pokémon, so either of those games being brought up to speed would probably do it for me more than OR/AS did.

Hoenn has always been my favourite region, and here are reason why ORAS was great for me,

    1. Additional Mega Evolutions gave a much needed boost to a few weak Pokémon, namely, Pidgeot, Beedrill, Altaria and Lopunny.
    2. Incorporating Mega Evolution as well as adding Primal Reversion into the storyline was genius to me.
    3. DexNav was a really cool feature that should have remained going into 7th gen.
    4. Loved the Pokémon Contest since R/S/E and it can be considered a postgame content as well. It was good to see some minor additions to the original.
    5. The new additions to Secret Base such as being able to see other people's bases when we pass by them, and being able to become Secret Pals were really cool.
    6. Being able to fly around the skies manually was always something I had wished for, so it was nice to see us being able to soar on the back of Latias and Latios.
    7. The changes to Mauville City were welcomed for me, given the fact that the original city was too small with little to do. I do miss the game corner though.

Here's why ORAS was disappointing for me,

    1. Delta Episode was nice, but the entire episode is just too short.
    2. Requiring HMs to get around was always a hassle and they could have done away with it earlier than 7th gen.
    3. Having some TMs scattered around Mirage Islands was awful, given that we had to wait a long time for some islands to appear even via BuzzNav.
    4. Wished Gym Leaders could have played some part in the main storyline, and it was disappointing not to be able to have a rematch with them like we could in Emerald.
    5. Wally should have made more appearances as we're collecting Gym badges.
    6. Game Freak was lazy by recycling the Battle Maison from XY. The game would surely have been more acclaimed had they brought back Battle Frontier.

I love Houen, but even my nostalgia for the region and its storyline wasn't enough to keep me interested in the remakes for long. The post-game was just plain and I haven't bothered playing OR/AS in over a year as a result.

ORAS is a great game on its own. Its a good game and I still play it from time to time. Hoenn is probably my favorite region behind Johto.

It’s just ORAS had the potential to be a lot more than it ended up being. It decided to be a Ruby remake when it should’ve been an Emerald remake.

I love Hoenn don’t get me wrong. Even in ORAS.

Yeah but ORAS should have aimed higher. It missed the bar. Lack of rematches and a battle frontier are inexcusable. These are features that defined Hoenn. Many fans feel ORAS got cheated out of what many would consider to be its defining features.

Nevertheless Hoenn on its own and ORAS in its own right are amazing experiences and anyone playing through them should be grateful such a beautiful region like Hoenn made the cut for the 3DS. GF could have remade any other region but they chose Hoenn bc it’s special.

shoz999 Do you play competitive bro?

I rank ORAS behind Emerald. Don't care how beautiful ORAS looks, Emerald is a better take on Hoenn than ORAS is.
