Where to get Charmander?!

I am desperately searching for a Charmander for my Pokémon team on Emerald. I don't want to buy FireRed/LeafGreen full price only for a Charizard. I thought you could choose a kanto starter when you completed Mt Battle in Story Mode in Pokémon Colosseum, although I'm not sure. I've looked every walkthrough and the FAQ here, but noone tells if this is true, not even what the prize is if you manage to complete Mt Battle. You can get a Johto starter in XD for completing Mt Battle, so it's sounds reasonable. Does anybody know if you can get a kanto starter in Collosseum?

The prize you get for completely mt battle in colosseum is a time flute.... there are no prize pokemon for completing it in game. You do get a Ho-oh for completeling mt battle in the battle colosseum mode though.

Ok, thanks.
This pretty much stinks. Now I can't complete my team, unless I wait for ages and trade a Charizard over with D/P. What makes it even more annoying is that you are overthrown with easy-to-get Johto starters in the games. Aw well, guess I just have to do it without Charizard. ;006;

FR/LG are $20 now. Still wasn't it obvious that their wasn't going to be a charmamder in this?

No, it wasn't obvious, because you can get the Johto starters very easily. In Colosseum you HAVE to run into them. In XD, you only have to beat Mt Battle ( which is easy with a few lvl 100 Pokés ), and in S/R/E, you just have to complete the Hoenn Dex. Tons of options. So I thought: Could it be possible that the prize on the first Mt Battle is a starter from the 1st generation, since on the second game you get a starter from the 2nd generation?

I'm guessing you get the Johto starters in Colosseum and XD is because the Johto games were not remade, and you can't trade with the old Pokemon games with the new GBA ones. So, in order to get all the Pokemon, such as the Johto starters, they needed to add them into the new games.

That makes sense. But in my opinion they have heavily exaggerated the number of opportunities to get them. The chances for starters are so:

1 chance for a Kanto Starter
1 Chance for a Hoenn starter
3 Chances for a Johto starter

They could have spread that to 2 chances equal. But they didn't. Now I'm sitting here with 1 Swampert and 3 Meganiums and without a Charizard.

You should buy a used copy of FR/LG. You might get lucky and get other high-level rarities. I can't imagine it costing that much.

Or, I'll be willing to trade you one when Wi-Fi is released, provided that transferring pokemon from 3rd to 4th generation is easy and swift.

Thanks for the hint! I've searched the web for a second-handed FireRed and I've found one! For only € 15,-. It is without box and adapter, but I don't know anyone with a adapter, so it's not a big deal. Now I can finally get a Charizard and complete my team, hurrah!
