Actually, I started off with that excact combination (I was Chikorita and my partner Cyndaquil), and I've been getting through everything fine. Because I stopped playing it for a while, I'm still only at the Sky Tower, but everything else's been okay.

ya, not true.

I had Treecko as my character and Torchic as my partner for the game and they rock, yes, they have weaknesses to the first birds, but are just incredible partners.
