Which do you prefer: Viz Action, Viz Shonen Jump (manga novels, not mag) or Tokyopop?

I love all of them, personally, but most of the stuff I read is SJ or ACTION...

By the way, I'm looking for a new manga to start purchasing, any recommendations?

Peace, yo's. Peace.

Viz is good, and Viz action I really haven't read much of.

Tokyopop is a little weird though. Sgt Frog for example is excellent (despite changing Kururu to Kululu after over 7 volumes) but they are too expensive though. And besides Sgt Frog, I really don't like any of their other mangas.

I do not pic favorites of manga, I just cant do that, I love all manga equaly, but I do pic favorites in titles, but just cause I like a certain title that does not mean I like the company that it comes from.

What, no Viz's Signature Line/Editor's Choice? No Dark Horse? No Del Ray?

This thread phails.

(If I was held at gunpoint, I would probably choose Viz Action.)

Well, out of the three of them my favorite is probably Viz Shonen Jump. I love Naruto, One Piece and Yu-Gi-Oh. I really don't read much Tokyopop or Viz action. =/

Out of those, I'd go for Shounen Jump (Though Shounen Ace (JP) automatically beats it as a magazine just for having Neon Genesis Evangelion and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu serialized in it :p). Not out of all of those, I'd go for Del Ray.

The manga series for those phail compared to the anime, and the manga adaption of Evangelion is evil for characterization. I consider the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion/Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion as a whole to be a flawed masterpiece and the anime The Melacholy of Haruhi Suzumiya to be the most enjoyable anime that is so damn accessible (in meaning almost anyone can watch it and like it).

But that's just my opinion, so don't mind me. ;D

You brought up an interesting point on Japanese publishers, though. I suppose I'll go with either Young Animal (Berserk), Young King Ours (Trigun Maximum, Hellsing, and even the new series World Embryo seems to be enjoyable) or else Big Spirit Comics (20th Century Boys, Monster, Pluto, Homunculus, and a few that I'm probably missing...); come to think of it, probably Big Spirit Comics.

I prefer Del Rey manga translations, especially since they have the US rights to my favorite series now, "XXXholic".

I would prefer Tokyopop, because has a variety of manga books with different genres in each of them. And it's true that they are expensive, but still...Anyways, I think Tokyopop has some awesome books.

Viz, a little bit, but not much, I know that the prices are low, but there is just something that I like in some of the manga books that I don't find in the SHonen jump.

rose: I like Tokyopop the most and shonen jump. both are really good!! plus, some of Tokyopop's aren't that expensive. save me a bundle when I bought the Kingdom Hearts mangas!! *hugs mangas* love them!! viz shonen jump, because of it being a magazine and holding a lot of mangas in it!!! :p

Nobody has said Shonen Jump advanced?

Seriously. Buso Renkin, Death Note, Bobobo, D.Grey man. All great titles!

Viz/Shonen jump comes in second (Even though it's basicly the same as Advanced), With Yugioh, Ruroni Kenshin, ect.

I don't have any Del Rey titles, but they seem to have some pretty good stuff. Negima, Tsubabsa and xxxHolic stand out. (But my, Negima is a bit more pervy in the manga o.o )

Tokyopop is just....blah. I only own/am interested in Kingdom Hearts. Nothing else is worth buying to me. The titles are just boring.

ADV's Azumanga Daioh and Yotsuba&! are nice...

But in short, I like Viz's stuff the best.

Tokyopop is horrible.

If they ever get their hands on the Haruhi novels, they better not have it translated with the help of "talented comic writers"

So Viz wins by default.
