So which do you think was the better game? Super Mario 3 or Super Mario World?

I thought Super Mario 3 was better, even though it ain't got Yoshi in it.

Super Mario World is my favourite Mario Game.

My vote is for SM3, since that was the first hugely-designed Mario game which most of the other games in the series have followed.

Hands down, Super Mario World. I've played that game for hours and loved it. I've beaten it so many times and the last time I played it (and beat it) was last week. Although, I never got very far in Super Mario 3.

Super Mario World is great! I used to play it every day it was so good. SM3? I've got that but I hardly play it.

Mario 3 is the most unique one with varying areas, loads of power ups and makes you think to the day...whereas Mario World was pretty much a Left-to-Right adventure. Mario 3 was like that but had a lot more exploration involved.

Although, from the looks...New Super Mario Bros may take the crown o,o

Super Mario World had Yoshi but it was a little too easy. Super Mario Bros. 3 had more levels and was harder. I'll say tie.

I like Super Mario Bros. 3.It had more interesting levels and the various suits that Mario wore were pretty cool.

When IGN rates it a 9.5, and can't stop screaming of how fantastic it is, I'd say that it most definitely possible. ;)

Super Mario World, not just because it has Yoshi. Serebii said that SMB3 had more exploration involved, but I don't see how that is... many levels in SMW had more than 1 way to be beaten, meaning you had to search around considerably to open up every route to be able to play every level. Also, there were more hidden things, as in levels and items. Star Road, anyone? You could also find more things by flying to the top of the level. Example: In the Donut Plains level just before the castle, if you flew up in the really hilly part, you could find a moon, which gave you 3 extra lives. Also, I LOVE the SMW castles.

Super Mario Bros. 3 had inconsistent gameplay. The levels would differ way too much from each other. One would have you on a flatland, and the next would have you climbing things, with you being able to appear on the other side of the level, Mario Bros. style. Oh my gosh, I now remember how much I hate the castles in Super Mario Bros. 3.

All in all, Super Mario Bros. 3 is my 2nd least favorite in the console Marios. Super Mario World is around my 3rd favorite.

We'll have to see what others say... I have reason to believe that some of the Nintendo IGN editors are a bit biased towards Nintendo... check out their blogs if you don't believe me.

Oh, I check out their blogs all the time for upcoming information. I tend to use a combination of IGN and Gamespot's reviews for a happy medium, Gamespot just hasn't reviewed the game yet.

I love SMW, it was the game that got me interested in the other Mario games (I was into Sonic before Mario), and I think it is one of the best Mario games. My second favourites are Mario Land 2 for Gameboy and Super Mario 2 for NES.

I like cheese.
In SMW, there was much more freedom, since you could revisit previous levels. And the KOOPALINGS are in it!

The Koopalings were in SM3 as well. Those flying wooden ships...now there's a challenge. SM3 was heavy towards "I think I'm going to die again and again" challenge levels.

^I pity da
SMW. It had two-goal levels, capes, yoshi, dragon coins, special world, star road, etc.
It was awesome.

Back in Black
This is the hardest question I have ever been asked.

Seriously. I'll talk about cons then pros of both games, then my decision.

SMB3 had awesome power ups, diverse worlds, and the ability to store items for later use. That gave it a bit more of an epic feeling. Toad houses, military vehicles, Kuribo's shoe, and more. Not to mention the warp whistles are some of the most cleverly hidden items ever. I didn't find the Desert Land one until I got it for GBA.

Super Mario World was great as well. It was far less linear than SMB3, and the secret exits were fun to find. The difficulty is a step up from SMB3(The fortresses and Special Levels were a pain) and Yoshi was awesome. Finding every little secret was fun. Soda Lake I never knew about until my cousin showed me a few years ago. It was a blast to discover it for the first time. Not to mention the cool little reward for all 96 exits...

SMB3 had its fair share of flaws, though. Many levels were either too easy or too hard in my opinion. Not to mention there really aren't any secret levels, beside the fact you can skip some without Warp Whistles. Many power ups didn't live up to their full potential. I felt the Frog Suit could have opened up many more secrets, and fire could open up more secrets in Ice Land. Kuribo's shoe is something I wished could have been used in more than 1 level.

Super Mario World also had several problems. One, the cape made many levels WAY too easy. If you had good handling, you would never stop flying. There is also a great lack of power ups compared to SMB3. SMB3 had-

-mushroom
-fire flower
-raccoon leaf
-starman
-kuribo's shoe(although limited)
- P wing
- Hammer Brother Suit
- Frog Suit
- Tanooki Suit

While Super Mario World only had-

- Mushroom
- Fire Flower
- Cape Feather
- Starman
- P Balloon(not as limited as the Kuribo's Shoe, but still a great deal)
- Yoshi

So yeah, 6 to 9. Also, the difficulty curve was a bit out of whack. Tubular in Special was smash-the-controller hard, while Way Cool was World 4 material.(even without the Yoshi Wings.) I never used the P Balloon in Tubular- I used a Blue Yoshi(cheating, but yes, even with that it was mind-boggling.) I also felt there was a lack of variety of level archetypes. There were only a few ice levels to my knowledge(Donut Plains Secret 2 and Awesome) and no desert, giant world, etc thing. Also, the colored Yoshis never really did anything truly noticable. Yes, you could use whatever power they were colored, but I think that could have been incorporated into finding secret gates better.

This is really hard to pick, I love them both so much and grew up with them. I might as well flip a coin to choose, but I'm gonna give my vote to SMB3 because the variety of power ups was fun. If Super Mario World at least made the cape not so uber and used a little more variety in terms of power ups and levels, then SMW would definitly win.

I think SM3 is still one of the top-selling videogames in the history of Nintendo.
